Hey I'm about 5'10" 178lbs. ive been a XC runner for my school for three years now and am a good runner but have always had a layer of fat on my stomach. You'd figure that with all the cardio i do it would go away but it hasn't. i work out my abs but still see no results. does anybody know why that fat isnt going anywhere. Thanx

How's your diet? You can work abs all you want, but diet is the key to success.

i eat pretty healthy. i do have sweets once or twice daily but i like to think that my habit of only drinking water all day cross cancels that. also i do some lifting but i just started. i was thinking about getting cell tech to aid with lifting and i hear its not to bad for runners because i will be starting track and field this week.
as for regular diet though. i usually eat a small grinder for lunch(deli meats). a normal sized dinner when i get home and something small at night.

eat breakfast! and water wont cancel out you eating candy. try cutting the sweets out of your diet and see what you get. and dont eat to late in the day. (past like 8 or 9)

Runners tend to be skinny fat, sorry. You run off any mass you might build and you probably don't eat enough calories, adding to the problem. Start eating good fuel for your running - a good breakfast with complex carbs like oatmeal and a peice of fruit, and some prtoein like scrambled eggs. Have a small, healthy snack-meal three hours later, a healthy lunch with complex carbs (whole grain bread/bun, lean meat 3-4 oz, lots of veggies and an oil based dressing), another healthy snack meal 3 hours later and a heaslthy dinner with lean protein and veggies, even some brown rice or whole wheat pasta. I don't think eating before bedtime is a problem - for you it may be necessary - try 1/2c cottage cheese an hour or so before bed. It will help with mucle retention.
Cut out the sugars, continue drinking wtare, add some rsistance training and keep your calories up, you expend a lot already with your running.
For your running - add in some sprint work, it will help you build powwer which translates to speed and it will help you burn fat.
Don't be hungry, and enjoy being healthier while you wait for the fat to melt off and the abs to be revealed, maybe 12 weeks, maybe less. Enjoy the journey.
