I am buying some new shoes tomorrow and don't know what would be best for me. Right now I just have some grubby hiking shoes and I think new shoes would be a great incentive. So...here's my workout routine, and maybe some of you would be good helpers.

I run every day...1 mile in 10 minutes. I walk/jog another 20 minutes every day. This is in the gym usually. I also would like to be able to use the shoes outside however. I do other excercises of course, but now that I think about it, the type of shoe doesn't seem like it would matter for biking, eliptical, etc. Arch support is important to me...I have a bad back

and oh yeah, i'm a 19 year old female 100 lbs give or take, 5 foot 3. I have no idea if that matters.

Thanks ahead of time

A good all around shoe company is New Balance, I can wear mine in the gym and out. VERY comfortable and versatile.

I've been running too, which has been a problem for me as I have very sensitive feet. Good shoes are a must! I've found that "Brooks" is pretty comfortable. If at all possible try to get your shoes at store that has a focus on fitness or running. The level of service is really noticable. I went to a store that focused on running and they measured my feet six ways to sunday, had me walk and jog for them as well as checking out the arches on my feet. They brought out about 6 different types of jogging shoes and had me try them all out- walking and jogging to see which was the most comfortable. Since you run so much I'd reccomend you get a good quality running shoe and use them only for running. Your feet will thank you!

Alot of people when they buy shoes dont't take thier weight into consideration. Add this to what you want to do with the shoe, and go to an experienced dealer.
My preferance is saucony. But I Only use them inside.
I have 300k on the pair I have now. Good question to ask the sales person is how many miles or Kilometers you can get out of them.
Have fun.

Do any heavy lifters recommend Otomix for shoes? Any others in particular? Tarab I'd recommend any respectable cross-trainer.

I also loved "brooks". I tried them once for my flat feet and they made running so much more comfortable, but any good cross-trainer shoe will be fine.

Wow, I got a lot of responses. Brooks, Saucony, and New Balance...will look into all three of them. And Ogun you recommend a Cross Trainer? I'm sorry, but is that different than "running shoes"? In the past all I've bought is Sandals and loafers basically. I think I will be going to Scheels, they're well known and respected and have so dang many shoes I won't know where to start. Asking lots of questions will be key for me.
Gwin, you lost weight on your feet? haha..that's pretty cool. Nobody likes a chubby foot :) just kidding, congrats

By the way, Ivan, what do you mean by take your weight into consideration? IE light shoes for light people and vice versa? Or just ask the shoe people...?

Well if you are a heavy person and the shoe doesn't have good immer support it wn't last very long and the cushioning or shock absorbtion will break down very quickly. Kind of like putting the wrong tires on a car.
I realize you are not heavy, so don't let them sell you something you don't need. And do go for the lightest shoe possible.
Hope this helps.

there are several good brands out there, as for the type of shoe you want, look at cross trainers, you can run, walk, day hike, bike ride in thes. Like I said there are a lot of good brands out there so try a few pair of each brand on and see which fit best, also make sure you are at a place where you can run around a little to get a feel for the shoes see if they are too loose, too tight, too heavy, light, etc. Good luck.

Oh yeah, my personal preference for running shoes have been Nike Xcellerators. I've gotten them for four years now and have not found a pair yet that has fit my foot better.

Thanks for all the advice everyone...thanks ravenbeauty. the xcellerators didn't work for me, but I got a really nice pair of new balance cross trainers. Nice and light....cushy...they worked perfect when I tried them out at the gym tonight.
take care

Ok that's what I wear Mutt, no problems except they are sort of outdoor/mountain tread, too much for gym. I might take a like at the Otomix shoes, they look sweet but I need to try some on to know.
