BUMMER I JUST WEIGHED IN ABOUT 10 POUNDS HEAVIER THAN I DID A FEW MONTHS AGO. I MUST BE GAINING SOME MUSCLE SINCE MY WAISTLINE GOT SMALLER THIS MONTH..WHERE IS THE EXTRA WEIGHT COMING FROM??? I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE WEIGHT GAIN, MAYBE I SHOULD GO TO LIGHTER WEIGHTS? I HAVE BEEN VERY GOOD ON MY DIET AND I KNOW THAT MY DIET IS NOT THE REASON FOR THE GAIN.

I know you had an answer to this in another forum area, but one other thing to bear in mind (as well as the fact that you are more metabolically active with more muscle) is that muscle is denser than fat.
So, you're shrinking but weighing heavier because you're denser now. In a good way! Jon |

Look at the positive side of this: The more lean muscle you gain, the more calories you'll burn to maintain it. It takes up to an extra 50 calories a day to maintain one pound of lean muscle mass!

Worry about the mirror, not the scale

If your waist got smaller, you're obviously making progress. Like it was said, the added muscle will raise your metabolism and help burn more fat in the future, and it also looks better, regardless of the number on the scale.-------------- SQUAT MORE ~Jesse Marunde Blood Guts Sweat Chalk |

hey I understand your concern gaining weight happens when you begin to gain muscle but fear not because you will start to lose weight again because the muscle will increase your ability to burn fat.

Thanks for the encouragement!! I feel like I have lost a little bit the past week. I started doing kickboxing again too, I always feel more of a burn doing that along w/ lifting than just regular machines. I will be weighing in in two more weeks.

kick boxing is good
I try to weigh in once a week at least - I have notice that I usually gain some right before that timeof the month & lose it quickly after that starts. I don't know if that is the same for you but something else to think about anyways. If your scale gets moved around that could goof it up too. You are using the same scale?? the tape measure is the better judgement. -------------- Reddy All people smile in the same language |

You weigh in once a week? Wow!
I was going to do that but I figured if I didn't see a change I would get discouraged. I was weighing in at another gym, but that place closed, so I weighed in at the new gym and that's when I saw the jump in weight which scared me. I figured I wouldn't weigh again for at least few weeks to see if there is another change in my weight. I think I may just stick w/ the tape measuring and how my clothes fit!! ============ Quoting from Reddy: kick boxing is good I try to weigh in once a week at least - I have notice that I usually gain some right before that timeof the month & lose it quickly after that starts. scales don't weigh the same - next time you go to a discount store line 3 up & step on each - you won't get the same & there is no way you could lose or gain that quickly.
I know some places that put the scale alittle low to make the "girls" feel better - make sure you wear the same thing each time - different shoes & clothes change the reading too - I have a scale at home so I weigh without anything on or just undies but if you are in a public place that isn't a good idea. Doctor's scale usually are 5 lbs more that home scales - gym is usually with doctors. just pick you that you can get too -------------- Reddy All people smile in the same language |

I should know that all scales don't weigh the same, but for some reason I thought all the larger scales would be about the same give or take a few pounds, but not by as much as what I saw! I am getting an evaluation done this Friday w/ a local trainer, and also going to have her give me some tips on my training program. I figure I am working out enough, but lately not seeing the results I want so hopefully this will be a kick in the butt and a right start to this year.

I hate scales myself. I rarely use them. I go by the way my clothes fit. if my clothes start getting looser, then Im on the right track. Go grab a measuring tape, and measure your entire body on a biweekly basis. You get way better results, and its not so damned depressing like the scale is. Your looking good on the pics your provided, I dont think you have to much to worry about. :)
