Before entering undergraduate studies my freshman year at OSU, I decided my current physique was inadequate for the average 18 year old. I only weighed 115lbs after four years of cross country on a high fat extremely low sugar and moderate protein diet, therefore I decided to hit the gym. However I was void of any knowledge regarding an appropriate workout regimen. My only prerequisites for my workout was" until I feel just like last time's workout, or more specifically to the brink of injury. I regulated my diet to 6000 calories a day while making sure my protein, carb, and fat ratios were 70% ,20% ,and 10% respectively.Taking this diet in combination with knowledge over studies regarding hyperplasia and hypertrophic muscle fiber promotion theories, I am now capable of leg pressing 1100 lbs exactly without a spotter and covering the fullest possible range of motion. My max bench press is currently 215lbs without warm up or prepping. With the appropriate stretching and preparation I have achieved a max bench press of 250 lbs. I currently weigh 135lbs. I am not dissapointed about my bench press considering that maintenance has been my only goal during school. Regardless, I am aware progress has diminished on my upper body but my legs continue to get stronger. I am not sure why I continue to lose strength from my upper body, but I know it has something to do with my weight dropping from a peak of 148lbs in early september 2006.

ok is there a question in there somewhere?

How do you know your muscles fibers have actually grown new ones? Did you take a cross section before and after of muscle fibers?

Hyperplasia is an interesting phenomenom, don't know that it has ever been shown to be able to be applied to muscle in more than theory.

Well the So-Called Gurus at ABCbodybuilding have built a cult like following on it. I never truly understood it and really just never got into it.

Isn't Hyperplasia the splitting of muscle cells or something like that?

hyperplasia is the actual growing of new muscle fibers I believe.

Hyperplasia: An abnormal increase in cells in a tissue or organ, excluding tumour formation, whereby the bulk of the tissue or organ is increased.

I have hyperplastic tissue on my thyroid Also known as colloid nodules (just developed since pregnancy) .
