I turned 30 and decided I didn't want to be overweight any more, not only for myself, but also in order to teach my children a healthy lifestyle, so my questions are this:
I do 30 min. on the treadmill early in the a.m., another 30 at night and about 30 minutes of various nautilus machines 4-5 times a week. Is this an effective schedule for weight loss? Also, my calves are large, am I stuck with them for the rest of my life or will they shrink with weight loss?

Depends on the calves some are just blessed with large ones hahaha...yup you got it most here would kill (well almost) to get a pair of large calves. You can most likely see a inch or two come off depending on the fat to muscle ratio. As to the workout sounds good keep it going!

Unfortunately I have always been very self-conscious of my legs, I'm just afraid of making them bigger by doing the wrong excersises!

a good mixture of cardio (which is what you are doing know) and weight training with a good clean diet will do wonders. there are tons of different resources on here available here, including personalized exercise programs, just answer the questions and you will have a whole 8 week program set up on here for you! good luck!

Be careful of not over training. Try to listen to your body and if you need a day off well then rest. To succeed you'll need a good diet as well. You are doing great so you'll get great results as well. Good luck!!
