good morning lini_liduce, the suggested cardio is to do it at least 30-45 minutes three times a week. I would start out with that.

good luck!

Much depends on your goals, how soon you want to meet them, and your conditioning right now as to where to begin with your cardio. More info would probably be helpful. As carivan says, one thing for sure. Try to stay, especially starting out new, in your target heart rate zone. This will vary from person to person depending as I said on their conditioning.

CARDIO; you can do as much as you feel like, just remember to start out slow- If you are a beginer. I think an hour a day is enough to lose all the weight you want if you are consistant and stick to reaching your goal, whatever it may be. Remember to mix it up a little w/diff types of cardio so you get good variety-dont get bored.

Well yes and no, that depends on your goals.
The problem with too much cardio is that
1) you'll be burning too many calories that you'll need for lean muscle mass AND the most important thing,
2) your nervous system will not be able to recover fast enough........ Actually the recovery time needed has not much to do with your muscles (since they recover a lot faster than your brain!!! ;o)

Slow cardio doesn't feel that hard to do, but your body will still need extra recovery time before a good weight training.

Listen to Bettia, 3-4 times weekly for 30-45 mins should be okey.

If you do 3-4 times weekly, will that burn any muscle mass, what is the best way to keep your muscle but lose your fat?

You wont lose muscle mass by doing cardio. Your body gets its energy from fat and carbs. Just provide yourself with proper diet, and keep going on the cardio. To keep your muscle mass Eat properly and supplement your protien, and of coarse....keep weight training!!
Good luck

I think the cardio/muscle loss is not too much of an issue till are already lean.(getting close to contest type leaness). Philia is right on the money with her post. I would read it twice. Then maybe read it again.

You may want to try some HIIT cardio too. Make 2 of your cardio days of this type. The 30-35 miles may be excessive if this is what you do at each cardio session. You are probably burning off your best fat burner, muscle.Increasing your weight training is a must. Building muscle will burn the most fat in the long run. It is what stokes your metabolism. The next place to look is your diet. This is all important, because without proper diet, none of the above will show much results. Increase your protein first off, and ditch any sugary startchy carbs. This will go greatly toward your getting lean.
