With SusieSue's Endomorph thread, this follows (and soon, methinks, the Mesomorphs will pipe up).
I'm 6'5, 195. Always been skinny except for two small periods in my life. When I was in Air Force basic training, I can remember this big guy in my flight; don't remember his name, but he was from Minnesota and his nickname was, "Lurch." He, myself, and about four others, tried out for the "tug team." We'd go out at night when the others were writing letters home and run 4 miles or so, carrying the tug rope for the competition that every flight participated in. I remember him once defending skinny, or tall people really, to somebody else. He said, "It's really hard for tall people to gain muscle mass." I know most would disagree with that, but I do agree with what he meant, which, I think, was that 5 lbs. of mass on an Ectomorph shied in comparison to 5 lbs. of mass on an Endomorph or Mesomorph. I'm nearing the end of year 2 on my program. So far, I've defintely toned and gained strength. I have good wind now; can play a whole basketball game w/o even breathing through my mouth. But I'm not buff. I got veins, strength, even striations starting. Am I fighting, among the more obvious battles, a war with genetics? Any other skinnies hurting on this one? -------------- --There are no versions of the truth.-- Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic Park II |

Yo Ogun!
I'll trade you some of my "endomorphons" (the smallest subatomic particles found in endomorphs) for some of your ectomorphic veins and striations. Deal? TSMD |

Its funny, but everyone wants everyone else's body type. Ogun, speaking unscientifically, I know what you are up against. I too am an ectomorph, super fast metabolism, skinny as hell, in high school hated to be picked on the no shirt team! Always played sports, but never took off my shirt!:big_smile:Anyway, when I started working out, I made some initial gains. Noone was more dedicated than me. I even took a cab to the gym on days I couldn't drive! I remember telling folks I haven't missed a workout in a year, and I hadn't. But, I never really gained any muscle to speak of, I got stronger, but not very showing, until I got as serious about my diet as I was about my workouts. Till I found out how to keep a diet log, find my maintenance calories, and then start eating well over them, this is when I started to gain. Folks like us I cannot stress how imparitive it is to eat well and clean, and well over our maintenance calories. Without doing this, you will never probably see much size gain.:( Genetics will of course hold us back from ever being heavyweights, but we can gain good size with the right effort. Good luck to you.:dumbbell::big_smile:-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

Amen Bhardy!
"Temporarily borrow "! You hit the nail on the head! Folks joke about wanting a different body type, but for me personally, I have put a lot of time and effort into discovering what works and what doesn't for me. And believe me, I have compiled quite an extensive list of what doesn't work and things NOT to do! While it's fun to dream of "different" pastures (and razz the ectos and mesos about "how easy they have it"), I'd hate to have to start all over again with the trial and error with a different body type. I'm happy and I'm comfortable... not just settling and being complacent, mind you, but I know where I am, I know where I want to go, I'm learning what I need to do, I'm balancing it with my work/family/lifestyle, and I'm enjoying the ride. TSMD ============ Quoting from bhardy: Similarily, I'm sure tenor doesn't want to be 150lb. But, I bet he wishes he had my ability eat and eat and eat without putting on any fat. Still you point is well taken. Perfecting my diet will no doubt improve my frustrating tendancy to stay within a 5 to 10lb range. ============= |

It's funny; I've always thought diet was important yet I'm so freaky about body fat and six-pack that I guess I'll never put on the mass required to approach Scwarzaneggeresque.
Dang. My trainer back in 2002 said, "You'll never look like Arnold, but I can have you looking like Brad Pitt in 10-12 weeks." Well, it was more like 10-12 months, but I found something akin to the Pitt physique. Now, if only I had his face and money. Yeah, we always want what somebody else has. Today, maybe we should all take a look at what we have and appreciate it, treasure it, and capitalize on it. From this point forward, I'm going to be proud of my tall, skinny, ripped up self and forget trying to gain 200lbs of muscle mass :) |

Well said ogun, so many people come into this sport of bodybuilding with the desire of putting on tons of muscle and looking like the Olympia contenders, when in reality they don't have a prayer of it. The media hype selling supplements will keep them sucked in :laugh:with this product will put on tons of mass, etc. Good you know, be proud of yourself, you have done well.
