thats pretty good i know some 14 year olds that can do more (then again they may be 15) but very few. i'd say you're definately better than the average 14 year, at least around here

yeah, well, i could bench 315 for reps when i was 12. damnit iankers, where's my cookie!
On a more serious note, I have heard that the "average" grown man can bench around 135lbs.

I hate to agree with your comment on fat and lazy Americans but this year I have gotten to travel to Europe and AsiaPac and have noticed that we (Americans) have let ourselves go.

I hope to change this trend with this American and his friends and family, thanks for the posts and great advice.

Great quote from 7707mutt!

I wonder how many of them can wipe thier own butt the day after that. I wouldn't think the muscle fibers of soemone in puberty would allow for that kind of weight, unless of course they are juicing?!?

Hello, Good is a matter of perspective. If it is more than you could bench last week I would guess its good. I want to know how much you can squat! I cant do squats due to a blown knee but those are the strong guys. Bench is not necessarily a good measure of overall strength.

I am turned 14 four months ago and my MAX total max is 310lbs three reps, and i am not bull shitting i know that their are a lot of people that say well i can bench 300 lbs when i was 12 and they are full of shit but i really can. People can be such full of shit, any way 80-130 i think is the average for a 14 year old if that answers your question.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that posting a lift and asking if it's "good", with the hope of having one's ego stroked, is pretty damned annoying.

It's also easy to SAY that you can lift a hummer over your head with one arm when you're annomously posting on a forum; why don't you try backing it up with a video for proof if you're not as full of shit as everybody says you are?

My point is that this isn't a place for bragging, it's for getting help and advice to advance your training, so please, leave your ego and/or desire for attention elsewhere.

On a serious note, aside from one freak who was already benching around 250 at 14, my freshman year JV football team probably ranged from a max of 85-175. On the first day of practice, the JV would test on how many reps of 115 they could get and th Varsity at reps of 135. Probably 90% of the players were able to get at least 1 rep of the 115, with maybe 5 out of the 50 able to get more than 10. The strongest member of the JV was able to lift the 135 maybe 25 times.

Varsity players (16-17) maybe had 1 or 2 out of the 50 not able to lift 135, with the "strong" members of the team ranging from 30-45 reps of 135. Max bench presses fell as follows:

top 5: 300-375
next 5: 275 - 300
next 10: 235 - 275
next 10: 205 - 225
next 10: 175 - 205
next 5: 155 - 175
next 5: 125 - 155

With that being said, the football team generally consists of the stronger members of the student body, so it wouldn't be a proper indication of "average".

I've also heard about the average adult male's bench of 135 max, which sounds about right.
