I think it is to much rest. That is my opinion. I would rest no more then two days, unless you are injured during your work out. No need for the one week rest otherwise.

I usualy take a week off every 6 or 8 weeks. You have to listen to your body, it will let you know when it needs a break. Other than that just do what you do weekly. I would try to wait 5 days or so between doing the samw workout the way you describe.

Do you do a shoulder or back workout?

Yeah, research is showing for the natural bodybuilder, hitting a muscle twice per week(maybe excluding legs) is ideal. Think about it, if you recover in a say 72 hrs, you are spending all the rest of the time off between hitting the muscle again just trying to maintain rather than trying to build.

are you training back or shoulders? you dont want to create any muscular imbalances...

How much rest you need depends on your exertion level....the amount of rest you take is too much unless you're working in the 1-2 rep max range for big exercises or doing negatives....but that's because CNS needs a long time to recover compared with muscles...which recover after a few days...

well i take NO-XPLODE and protein and sometimes amino acids which help you recover faster so do you think i could do biceps and triceps twice a week? like do it on monday then on saturday? i dont do back or shoulders i use to but then i quit because some guy said that was to much. and obviously he wasnt right.

Your back and shoulders are very important. Besides your abs I would say your back is the most important muscle group. A big back is what makes people look strong(my opinion). You could even get a great arm exercise doing back and shoulder movements. You should also fill out your profile and you will be set up with a kick ass work out plan. It works for me. If you are not very experianced in the gym (or where ever) take advantage of the benefits this site offers. They figure everything out for you, all you got to do is do it. To give my opinion on working the arms twice a week, do it.

monday-shoulders-forarms-abs
tuesday-legs-calvs-
wensday- chest
thursday- rest
friday-back-calvs
saturday-triceps and biceps-abs

would this workout make my arms bigger? and when you do legs if you want to jump higher do you do more reps or less?

If you are looking to jump higher read some of the posts in the powerlifting forum. It has been talked about there lately and there is a lot of good info.

Bigger arms results from gaining muscle everywhere. Concentrate on heavy compound lifts, squat, bench, overhead press, deadlift, rows, pullups, etc.

I've read for every inch gained in arm size, you need to gain an overall 10 pounds of muscle. FYI.

Bi's and tri's could easily be done twice per week. Every 5 days is plenty rest. Unless on back day for instance your form is so crappy that you involve biceps to the point of them getting pumped a bit. Then you may need more rest. Same with tri's. You have to learn your recovery threshold with the amount of energy you exert. If you are one of those folks who in order to have a good workout must be carried out of the gym, chances are you will not be able to work a muscle twice a week due to CNS recovery rather than muscle recovery.

This is an excellent point and one I have tried to drive home forever to folks. Your body will not allow you to get too disproportinate or will at least fight as not to allow this to happen. While it is true that everyone has some bodypart that responds better than others, it still does not get too far out of hand. Muscle mass will be gained as on overall proposition in the end.

So, at least one of you said yes work out arms 2 times a week, however you also said to rest those muscles 5 days? I am in a wheelchair and only work my upper body. I do chest triceps shoulders on sunday. Back shoulders and biceps on wednesdays and lots of arm bike cardio on 4 of the other days. Is that okay?
