Ok, I was just wondering what are the best exersises to do for the tricepts? I heard that Close Grip Bench was, but that doesn't seem to be working, I know I am not putting a LOAD on but I am not all that strong yet, I only throw about 150 on and still am pumping it like nothing, and seeing absoutely NO gains what-so-ever, so what do you reccomend for triceps? Thanks |

Try lying tricep extensions (aka skullcrushers) and regular tricep extensions. For a complete list of tricep exercises, from the main menu go to ft Exercise Resources, then Muscle Targeting, then Triceps. You'll find a list of exercises on Page 3.Good luck! -------------- **_Robert_** Pain is temporary; glory is forever! |

Ya, I tried that, and ive tried just about all of them, so skull crushers are the best, I guess ill have to try them next time. Thanks |

The skullcrusher is my absolute favorite excercise. It's simply the best excercise for gaining tricep mass. I will also do French curls to mix things up a bit. For definition, I recommend the cable pressdowns. Try varying your grip (straight bar, V-bar, rope, etc) for maximum results. One trick I learned doing the pressdowns is to lie on the bench (incline, about 45-degrees). It hits your triceps at a whole new angle and it gives you quite an awesome burn.-------------- --JBennett "I've up-ed my intensity.... now up yours!" "Pain is only weakness leaving the body." |

As Arnold said, it depends on what your goals are. Mass building wise, I personally like close grip bench, skullcrushers, straight bar pushdowns, and one-arm dumbell extentions. I'm not saying you're not doing the exercise properly, but close grip benches must be done with strict form, keeping elbows in, almost exaggerating it by having them touch your sides on the way down and up. I found that it is easy to throw on a lot of weight on the bar and get away from form by having the elbows go out. And if you are doing all this, and you're still not getting anything out of it, then stick to the other movements. Just like anything, everybody responds differently to certain exercises. Good luck!! |

Dips I think if you stay in good form of moving straight up and down will target your triceps more but if you lean forward a little that will help target your lower chest (i think?)... and yea on close grip presses keeping your elbows in close is pretty key to it.. I'm not sure if it will help but I also would hold the bar too far down and it would touch the middle of my chest.. now I bring it down closer to my neck along the upper part of my chest and it feels like a better pull along my triceps.. one last thing.. are you pyramiding up the weight as you workout.. if you just throw on 150 and do that for all your sets that could be another reason why your not seeing any gains.. maybe start out w/ 150.. then 160.. 170.. 180 for your sets.... or maybe start w/ less if 150 is nearing your close grip max... |

I like to do dips but my wrists are killing me...... My fav is the close grip flat bench one. Anyway, to build a good looking muscle you need to do different kind of exeercises to stimulate the muscle fibres to their max. -------------- - Nina :o) La vie est toujours aussi belle..... |

another one is skull crushers off the floor (while lying on the floor) with different size plates, thereby hitting the heads from different angles......great explosive power builder.or how about a close-reverse grip bench? -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" why dont you try push ups on a ball with your hand in a diamond shape,a good punching exercise is punching with a dumbbell in your hand for three sets of twenty repetitions, sergio did 25 to 30 or more sets for his triceps and man did he have some big triceps...

Chupi:
I'm not that experienced in boxing, but I took about 6 months of training in a rocky-style gym from a trainer that made a career out of it; and if there's one thing I've learned the triceps help you maintain form. If you want to gain more strength in your punches, the basic jab/straighthands come from the calfs and large muscle groups. The power from them are funneled up through the fist, which triceps will help maintain correct form for efficient energy transfer. To really get the most from your basic punches train your lower body and midsection, and your form must be perfect. Although, as my instructor always said, "A punch is never perfect until you throw it and your opponent goes down". Also, don't throw basic punches from your shoulders. Which it sounds like your doing, you'll get less power. If you're learning boxing on your own, join a gym to prevent bad habits forming. If anyone with more experience than me (I'm by no means an expert) wants to chime in and correct any erroneous statements I've made, now would be a good time.:) |
