With a phone book. If I remember this exercise correctly you can get a block of some sort, put a chair by it, lay a plate on the top of your legs and go at it.

At home I usually put a chair by some stairs then put my toes on the last step so that way I can have my heels go farther down than if they were only slightly off the ground from a phone book (guess it depends on what phone book you use).. and I usually lay a plate from my freeweights in my lap to help weigh them down.. if your stairs were too high (like compared to your chair so it almost makes it seemed like an inclined seated calf raise) then your probably better off w/ a small wooden block or the phone book

I don't want to be a post whore and try to avoid posts for nothing (sort of like this one) because I don't want to seem i'm only posting to pump my count up.. hey if you two see this in time goto the live chat.. that might be easier...

There are two kinds of posts that I consider okay, Useful on topic posts, and just plain community building topics (Hows your wife, your car, etc)

Okay, is this the dating network, or can someone actually get information on the exercise routine? I would like to know how exactly do you do calf raises without a machine? And for the alternative, could someone explain in detail just what to do????????? Please, I really need the help.

Penelope, look at the standing calf raise in the FT exercise resources. They work the calves almost as well. If you really want a good burn do the single leg calf raises.

Penelope jr. you can do calf raises without a machine.
Stand at the edge of a step (preferably the bottonm one) with your toes at the edge and heels pointing out.
Lower yourself about an inch then push up. Try 3 sets of 12.
Voila.
Good luck.

...and when body weight calf raises on a step become too easy, Jnellie, just use one leg at a time (bend the other leg up behind your working calf). Then, when that gets too easy, hold something while doing them... Just be sure it's not someone else's girlfriend or wife! Calf work can be so complicated.
