As a natural approach you may look at your magnesium intake. If you are taking none, start immediately. If you are taking any,up the doseage for a while. Magnesium(use citrate, not oxide) is so underutilized these days with the hype on calcium. I would recommend a magnesium/potassium combo. Not to mention another great side from it would be great sleep.

I am having back/neck (ongoing issues). My b/f has suggested that I take muscle relaxants to help alleviate some of the pain (I am seeing an RMT and Chiropractor - but am in between appointments)
My question is this - will that affect the results of my weight training? It seems as though it would to me...
To help with these problems I am having I doing 2 days a week of core training on a stability ball and then 2 days of lifting only.
I haven't taken any yet - I am trying to wait until I see the RMT next week - however I am having headaches on a daily basis for almost week now.....

That sucks, angiem. I would think the relaxants might diminish your workout intensity a little, maybe just do light lifting until you are more functional.

lol- I am only do light lifting (weight wise). I will hold off taking them because the workouts and the masssage and re-alignment will help more in the long run. Thanks for the info - it's what I thought.
I am still folowing the workouts for the WSSC Challenge the very last set you gave me - but with very little weight, and this week I went to 2 lifting days instead of 4 and added in the core training)
These are changes for life - so they may take awhile to accomplish - but persistance will do it! (rather than the short term relief from a pill...)

You have the right attitude about it, angie, anything worth doing is worth doing the right way and sometimes that means it will take longer to get there.
Hope you are out of pain soon!
Are you supplementing fish oil?

Magnesium chelate and gluconate are also top picks. By the way, just some info....
Magnesium and Potassium are essential minerals for the human body that enhance alkaline balance. Magnesium is needed for bone, protein, and fatty acid formation, making new cells, activating B vitamins, relaxing muscles, clotting blood, and forming ATP (the energy the body runs on). Potassium is needed to help support water balance, levels of acidity, and neuromuscular function while playing a critical role in the transmission of electrical impulses in the heart.

True story. I have a lot of sleep problems and magnesium seems to be one of the few things that helps. Take it about 30-60 minutes before bed and make sure you don't have any dairy with it or prior to it.
Also, aspartate isn't bad either (rule of thumb is -ate is decent). Just avoid magnesium oxide like the plague, it has something like a 0.4% absorption rate.
