I just read a your post about you losing cellulite doing deadlifts etc. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I have a question for you. I am trying to lose weight and inches so I have been doing the toning routine and hiit. Would it benefit me more to switch to the routine to build mass. If I switch should I continue to do hiit. I want my muscles to look lean with slight definition and I would like to drop about 2 more sizes in clothes. Thank you!

Hi Dawn....thanks for the congrats!!!!For me I saw a real difference when I switched to gaining mass...I was nervous...like alot of other women...that I would build big bulky muscles...but it was explained by bb1 that this wouldn't be the case..so I gave it a shot, and so far it has been fabulous! As for the hiit...I still do cardio,I've changed my routine to 3 days weights, two days cardio. If your doing a true hiit, which is completely exhausting, you should only do that once a week. Are you working out at home or in the gym?Keep at it and you will reach your goals in no time!!!:)

Hi KC. Thanks for responding.
Right now I am working out at home. (my sister is my workout buddy). I do not have a weight bench (yet) but my husband promised me he would buy me one soon. I want a really nice workout bench with EVERYTHING on it. I love working out with weights. I especially love doing leg work. I have never worked with free weights so I do not understand how deadlifts works your thighs since you are simply bending at the waiste. can you explain? I bet you are thinking "she is a total idiot". lol I reduced my hiit each week and I am doing the workout designed to be done in the home by ft. It includes Pushups, lateral arm raises, arm curls, chin between the chairs, dips behind the back(those dips kill me because I am weak in my arms) home squats, and calf raises. Does this workout seem okay to you for now? I do have 2 3lb hand weights. I hold both weights in one hand when I am working my arms. It's unbelievable how heavy 6 lbs feels after a while. I am losing inches all over but the scale is not moving. My husband told me to throw it away, I believe I would take his advice if I hadn't recently bought it. lol
I am so glad I found this site. I am getting to know everyone (MUTT is hillarious....rude at times...but it seems he is all talk). Uh Oh, I wonder if he'll read this.
If you read this MUTT I want you to know I am saying this with all good intentions. lol Anyway KC, thanks for all the advice. Please respond to my questions if you have time. I need all the help I can get. You can respond here or e-mail me with any suggestions. Thanks

Rude? More like direct and too the point. anyway, A standard deadlift you actualy squat down. What you described is a Stiff Legged Deadlift and that works mostly your lowre back and hamstrings.

Well THAT made my day dawn!!!!!!

Have to say I'm goin with rude mutt...hahahahah:laugh::laugh:...that was hysterical!!!!

 U Mutt!!!!!

Anyway...I should say...the straight leg deadlift works the leg more than just a deadlift...a deadlift works my back more...like mutt is trying to say up top. When you do one...and make absolute sure you are being careful and keeping the weight in your heels and not pulling up with your back(there is a post about how to do proper deadlifts on here somewhere...but remember for your legs...it will be straight leg deadlifts)anyway...when you do one you will feel it in your hamstrings!!!!Be careful....I started them with just 20 pounds and did 5 sets of 6 reps and could not walk the next day I was soooo sore...and I'm in decent shape(not great but OK).As far as your workout....looks just like mine when I started....and I know 6 lbs can get very heavy very fast!!!So stick with it you're doing great!!!How often are you doing weights???Have you determined some goals???

And Mutt....stop being so RUDE!!!!:big_smile::big_smile:

cracks me up!!!!!!!

KC,
I am doing my weights routine 3 days a week. Also once or twice a week I do hiit (I cut back on this) I recently started riding my bike (not sure how often I'll do this and I walk almost daily. We have a lot of hills in my neighborhood so the hiit, walking, and cycling is great. My goals are: Lose 2 more sizes, tone all over, have muscle definition, flatten my "baby" belly, develop healthier eating habits and have more energy. I AM GOING FROM FLAB TO FAB!!! lol I still weigh myself but I do not have a goal weight because the scale is deceiving.
Oh yeah MUTT, Rude.....definitely rude, but informative. lol

I've been out of town and haven't taken Mutt for a walk in weeks. He gets growly when he's kept in the pen too long.

'Switching' to mass for a woman is a misnomer. Women are not going to gain mass, unless they have extrodinarily high testosterone levels, which is not the case normally. Those female bb'ers you see are taking exogenous test. This is the only way they can actually build the muscle they have.

What is meant by most folks when they say go for mass for a woman should really be stated simply as go heavier. Many women are afraid to do any weights that may 'challenge' them for fear of big bulk. On the contrary, challenging the muscle will tone it and burn more calories than a low weight high rep scheme.

This leads of course to more calories burnt, thus adding to your caloric deficit, thus producing a fat loss and lean toned hard look. Be smart. :)

I think so too. I am still trying to figure out what is okay to eat and what is not. I've been eating wheat bagels all week thinking they are healthy. Amy (assimmer)informed me they are not good for dieting. What about good carbs and bad carbs. How do I know the difference. I have a million questions. I have been in the nutrition forum looking for answers. I have learned a lot but I have a long way to go though.

You don't look big in the picture. I have about 15lbs more to lose myself. I have mostly been paying attention to the inches I've lost. I've lost 10 inches from my belly since I had my baby in June. I measured myself about a week after I had him....YIKES....I WAS SCARED!
