Assuming my goals are to lose weight (10-15 lbs), is it ok for me to incorporate a Whey Protein shake into my daily diet? Someone told me I should be drinking a Soy Protein shake instead. Thank you for your help.

Whey all the way!

Use 1 scoop in water after each workout!

It'll all depend on the brand of protien. That's why it's usually more economical to buy a protien powder that packs more protien/scoop. Important to read the label:)

OH....didn't cosider that fly....I've always read 1 scoop...I will defineatly watch the label...that would get expensive...and you should take the protien powder on your days off if it's part of your daily caloric intake...for me it's hard to get in enough protien..so I drink one daily.

It is my understanding that protien suppliments are best taken soon after a wt workout. But as KC says, if you're just taking it to get in your daily protien requirement, it shouldn't really matter when you take it.

Personally I think thats way to much, I'd rather take in 24 grams PWO and get the rest off Foods and well the other scoop I take in the morning with Oats.

I take in 180 to 212 grams a day and if I took 3 scoops just in a PWO I'd screw up the rest of my meals and be to low in Protien or end up with meals with out it and thats not good.

If you eat 5 to 6 meals a day, a meal will come before and and after a workout withing a good time frame so for me 1 Scoop is good!

It's just a PWO not a meal, 1 scoop should be plenty enough to hold you for an hour or less! My meals after a workout of usually 30 to 45 minutes away if not even sooner!

Also, no I don't take a PWO on off days because I didn't workout. The purpose for a PWO isn't to get your intake in or protien marcos set for a day it's to get amino's and other goodies in to help repair and recover faster and to help save muscle, at least that what it is for me and what it's sugested for!

I do take my 1 scoop with Oats on the off day and maybe create a Meal Replacement shake on a off day but you can either add an ounce or so of meat to a meal and get the 24 g's!

OH Lord....I'm confused again....My understanding was you could use whey protien to help with your protien intake....I exercise 5 days a week and drink the shake right after a work out...and one the other two days as a snack...to help with the protien....I got that from here...well I thought...maybe I didn't get it.

It is and we do but not as a PWO (Whey and Water), make it in Milk and some egg white to slow things down. A PWO is supposed to be fast but some people think they need to recreate the wheel and call a MRP a PWO!

Like Fly said, the amount of protein in a scoop depends on the brand of protein you're using.

The percentage of protein is what you are after. With a commmon whey concentrate, they max out about 80%. An isolate in the 90's. To find out yours, simply divide your grams of protein per serving by the serving size(and times 100 of course for percentage). For instance, if the gr. per serving of protein is 23, and the serving size 29 gr., you will have 79% protein.

Looks like ON Whey is 82%.

I was thinking about trying NOW Isolate but just not sure yet, it seems real cheap compared to the rest of the Isolates and is why I'm sceptical right now about NOW.

NOW is only 89% just looked it up so this explains the cheapness in price!

I'll wait until I can afford to by good isolates and stick with ON for now!
