Hi , I am a 20 yr old male, I've been working out on and off for a while now, but recently I've really been into it now that i have a partner who encourages me to go on a daily basis, and we pretty much compete against each other, which is the same person who told me about this website, anyway...

i am 20 yrs old, I weight 171 lbs, and i am around 6'1 .
and im mostly defined, but i feel like i am too skinny..
I want to gain about 15... maybe 20 pounds..

what is the fastest way to accomplish this ?

would love some answers from experienced people,
thanks in advance for your feedback! :)

Keep working out, don't do too much cardio. daily basis for lifting or cardio or both? You want a few days a week of rest.

Add an extra 100 or 200 calories to your regular inmtake, make it protein, maybe a chicken breast. See how your body responds. Increasing weight means trainign to add muscle and that means heavy training, lots of rest, little or no cardio and a healthy food intake that is a little in surplus of what you normally eat.

Good luck.

I was in your shoes not too long ago. Cardio isn't all bad if you're trying to gain. It's great for a warmup/cooldown. However, you really need to eat. That should be your priority. Scrutinize your diet and keep your protein and overall caloric intake high. You also mentioned that you used to work out off and on - keep it consistant. Everyday in the gym is too much, though. Keep it around 4 times a week.

Cardio is not a sin! It is vastly important for cardiovascular health. However, in the bodybuilding comminity, it is well documented that overdoing cardio can prevent muscular gain. This stems from the amount of cardio you do, as nutrients are used up at a faster pace.(so diet is the key issue). I would recommend doing just light cardio(steady state) for heart health, increase your caloric intake, and proceed on.
