Who is with me? I want to start a reveloution, on supplements! I know I know that some level of supplements are needed, but for crying out loud! I bet for every one post on actual weight training there are 5 or more on the "best" supplement. Even people that are in competition mode are still eating more regualr "whole" foods then supplements. I think that the media and marketing people should win an award(then be take to a old time chain gang for crimes against fitness), for their skill in making people think and believe that you can not do anything fitness related. I see people both here and in my life that are just starting out in a fitness lifestlye, and the very first question is what "supplement" should I take? I am still not totaly convinced that out side of 3 supplements are they really needed. SO who will join the fight? I can not promise money, fame or fortune but we can have some fun with it!-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! I'm with you, Mutt! I totally agree with you. Hard work is the only true way to get the desired results.

I'm with you too, Mutt! I get especially frustrated with the marketing for all the fatburners & diet pills. (lies, false hope, the quick fix, bullsh...) In past years I was tempted once or twice, but the side effects always made me change my mind. And now thanks to all the great people on this website and their knowledge I completely understand and believe that everybody can reach their goals with the right healthy eating habits, dedication, determenation, patiens and without the magic pill :)-------------- "One Ring to rule them all; One Ring to find them; One Ring to bring them all, and in the Darkness bind them." -LOTR Trilogy |

My all time favorite is the "sauna belt"....lose inches in minutes!! Are there actually people out there that believe in this $hit.
I am also shocked when I see someone asking to critique their diet and then seeing that it is 75% made up of suppliments...do people not know what the word suppliment means?? It must cost them a fortune to "eat"! I'm with you 100% mutt!! -------------- Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there. |

So lets do it! I declare this: That we are dedicated to providing the knowledge that fitness can be achieved by training hard and eating plain old-fashioned foods. You can use supplements but they are considered an addition not a replacement!-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! I follow "The Journey" on Animalpak.com - a guy's quest to get big an ripped before a show in 18 weeks. It's very motivating and I highly recommend it. Here's a link to one of his entries:
http://www.animalpak.com/journey/week.cfm?week=5 When the page opens, click on "Log 2" on the right side of the page. In the entry, he refers to the 'secret' to getting big and how it shocks the crap out of people. I love it! Personally I have not ever had a issue of gain mass both muscle and or fat. SO for me to take a supplement to just get larger is out of the question, hell I see a cake and gain 5lbs. My main concern is that there are many on here that see supplements as a "quick fast way to gain". That is such a load of BS it makes my head hurt. At fault are the marketing companies, and those freaking dumb infomercials where the 50 year old woman got that 25 year old looking body by using Bowflex. BULLS@#T! Anyone that believes that email me as I have a ton of beach front land in New Mexico I need to unload for .99 a acre!
I also blame the fashion industry as well as the Music and Hollywood for making a persons status based on the body they have. If you feel that in order to have a good level of self worth you need to look like fitness model or a hollywood star you need to have you head examined. NO I am not saying that we all need to be fat and overweight to be good nice happy people. Far from it. I am saying that look at the value of what these people offer. 99.99% are only there to make money, even those that help others out on tv shows. They may be helping people but bottom line is that it makes the rich and famous. THere I am done for today! -------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! Mutt,
5 years ago I quit my job as a mortgage broker to become a middle school science teacher. I'm getting paid WAAAY less than I was. I'm one of the few that wants to help people and isn't motivated by fame and fortune. I agree that advertising has influenced how and what we buy, but you also have to point the finger at (and sometimes GIVE the finger to) the consumers. Bottom line - Consumers are suckers, and companies thrive on it. For example, if I put powdered milk in a container, flavored it, and told people that it was a supplement to strengthen and thicken bones, I wouldn't exactly be lying. Old folks, women living in fear of osteoporosis, and who knows who else would pay a great amount of money for something like it. If I marketed the crap out of it and people bought the product, I'd be a millionaire in a short amount of time. Did I lie? Well, sort of, but not really. Did I take advantage of people? Abso-freakin’-lutely. That's what supplement companies do. I trust a couple because they are straight-up-no-BS companies. But as for 98% of the products on the market - forget ‘em. They're better off in the trash than in your body. Remember the deal with that 'myostatin' crap a few years ago? 'Nuff said...... -------------- --JBennett "I've up-ed my intensity.... now up yours!" Supplements that helped were those that helped with recovery...ie worked in synergy with the hardwork in the gym and kitchen....funny how much crap there's out there or how many misconceptions people have...
My favorite is a rubber spandex-like suit to 'sweat off' the fat....yes...we actually sold it at our "Wagreens"....I was lmao when I saw it...but cant blame walgreens ...anything to make a quick buck.... The amusing thing is that some of the supplements in my walgreens are some of the most widely stolen items...we have 0 of 10 Zantrex(forget if that's the name)....none were bought(45$ each)...LOL....and 4/10 of another...gotta love it...funny part is my coworkers caught this fat guy before stealing them on more than 1 occassion...months later still as fat as ever...LOL.......those companies should pay us... | |

I don't believe in supplements at all. I eat a lot of veggies and fruits, and whole wheat stuff. That must suffice. My thinking is, that if it comes to WW 3, no one is gonna feed me supplements. I have to be able to function without them, and there you have it.... no supplements for me. -------------- Smiles, Ute \\"Take your cat and leave my sweater\\" Keith Urban |

Hey, I have browsed the site much more, and I just want to add to my post. I realize that there are a whole bunch of very serious body builders and extreme workout people on this site. In their case, I think supplements can help tremendously. Sorry if I offended anyone. I am just a regular gal wanting to be in the best shape I can be in before 40 comes around.

I think some supplements have their place but most people forget they are called supplements. We see every day people looking for the "secret pill" to wake up "ripped" the next day and most adds feed into that. Unfortunatley most people simply do not do any research and aquire the knowledge needed to meet their goals and want the quick answer.
