Yeah I want to hit the reps with the big weight but using bad form at that level will end you in the hosiptal. SO next week I will drop about 20-30% off and work at hitting 10reps the right way. AS for the car you better believe it I will take pics......-------------- Squats are really a very good thing, but in my world, Deadlifts are King!!!!!!!! |

Man, the pants are falling down?! Again, you are my idol. Great progress! Increasing the weight on the bar is always a great motivator, Mutt, but nothing beats the feeling of the old pants falling down! I'm very jealous! Yo Mutt, when you do flyes (both flat and incline), how far (deep) to you stretch your shoulders and elbows back? I've heard conflicting info on this... Some say never take the elbows too far back (injury risk), while others say the deeper you go, the better stretch you get in the pecs and delts (i.e., fuller range of motion)...

on flat I go to where I look like a cross (if you get my meaning) so they are parallel to the floor on incline about the same never past I loose feeling in chest and get it in my delts. I actually do three diff flyes flat inclin and machine it really hits different angle at least for me....-------------- Squats are really a very good thing, but in my world, Deadlifts are King!!!!!!!! |

Thanks - that's pretty much what I do, too.
On machine flyes (seated with back perpendicular to floor), I've been told that it is best to keep arms (including elbows) in a plane that is parallel to the floor (i.e., not to let your elbows drop or point down toward the ground) throughout the entire flye movement. Any thoughts on this one??? TSMD |

All I really make sure is that when I do them, that I feel the "burn" in my inner chest area first then let it spread out. I stop doing them if I feel it in my shoulders, usually that is because like you said that your arms are not placed right but also becasue you have too much weight. Try to keep them into a "l" shape. the machine I use also doubles for a rear delt machine. So I keep my arms bent in a semi circle and keep the arms level with my chest. hope this helps!-------------- Squats are really a very good thing, but in my world, Deadlifts are King!!!!!!!! |

Yo Mutt,
I get the same way with BB shoulder presses. Every so often every thing is just perfect and I have a fantastic set. But most of the time, I find that I really struggle to maintain my weights, reps, and form. Plus it is an awkward lift - at least for me. I actually prefer using DBs now - but getting them up into position can be challenging. TSMD |

Hey Mutt, have you tried this? If you miss a workout, do it next and so on until you get back to normal. That way you might miss each body part once, but you won't miss the same one over and over. I had to do that the last 2 weeks because of holiday/vacation, but now I am back on schedule. Just an idea. And isn't it great when someone notices the changes you are making? Congrats.

Kickbacks 30x10 35x10 40x10 Close grip bench 135x10 155x10 Superset of pressdowns and rope press 130x10 160x9 140x10 rope 60x10 40x8 40x7 Highlights: I went for the 265 bench more than I have ever tried. I was not expecting to get even 1 and got 3. My goal is to bench 305x6 reps as my 3rd set by dec 31st. Lowlights: None really next week I will get a spotter for the 3rd and 4th sets of bench! -------------- Eat More, Drink More, and Lift Harder than you thought you could, welcome to Becoming! |

What do you mean you weren't expecting to get even 1 rep??? Where is that 'go get 'em' positive attitude that you have inspired in others, mutt? It must have been lurking in there somewhere since you got 3!

Hey Mutt,
Just a question... didn't you recommend to me to do only 12 sets per workout? I counted 25 on yours... |

Ok since I am out of the gym for at least another week I started to lift my emergency weights in my basement.
I did chest and triceps and tho I used not a lot of weight or execises I am sore to day. Chest I just did 3 sets of 25 pushups. tirs I did kick backs and one set of barbell (french presses) I think kind of like a skull crusheer but I sat up. Kickbacks did 30, 35 40 all for 10 reps Highlights finally got back in the routine. A side note is that I measured Mutt jr. calf is 7in thigh is 11in bicep is 7.5 in and he is only 10.5 months old!! hhee hee he is soo cute! Lowlights I miss my gym!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -------------- Eat More, Drink More, and Lift Harder than you thought you could, welcome to Becoming! |

Ok mutt, just because you are working out at home doesn't mean you can slack off in the journal keeping! We are still interested in seeing what you are up to and hearing what you have to say about it. This one is getting kind of long, so why don't you start a new one....mutt's @home workout!-------------- ~Victoria~ ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

My shoulder pops every time i move it. There is no pain and i have seen doctors, trainers, and even a physical therapist and no one can give me any answers. I have even had a x-ray done to check for seperation in my ac joint. My doctor said it was a normal x-ray. I am concerned bc i am getting ready for this baseball season and when i first started throwing i got tendonitis. I think that is almost gone but the popping sound is driving me crazy. If anyone can give me any advice or just let me know what would be popping like that but not hurting i would appreciate it.

damn mutt the more i read your entries the more i know i can stick with it.seems you have an uncanny way of pumping me up to go work out with out tring.if a heavy man like you can push beyond the boundries of limits nad goals thier is no reason in hell i can't drive on harder to reach mine.hell i would loved to had you in my platoon of rangers back in early 90's.just reading your entries makes me feel as though it is possible for me to reach and surpass my goals in no time .bu ti realize goals should be hard to reach but atainable.thanks mutt-------------- Dave \"lost viking seeking Valhalla\" |
