Went last night did chest and calves nothing to major to report still increasing the endurance part of my lifts. Did 6 sets of bench 5 at 10 reps one at 8. started with 135 and went to 185. Then did 3 sets of incline db presses. Got 10 reps on all three going from 45-60lbs. Then and here is the best part. I got on the treadmil and went for a mile in distance over that mile I managed to runa 1/2 mile in 17 mins for the total mile. Next goal is to run the 1/2 mile with out stopping....more later!-------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

did back and arms last night. This was the first back workout in a month. Got 2 sets of 10 on the assisted chins. Did 3 sets of bent rows, 135x10. 155x10 185x10. Deadlifts were next..185x10 (way to light but since this was the first in a long time wanted to take it easy) 225x10, and then 255x6 only got 6 cause my grip slipped.
Then lat pulldowns..140x10, 160x10, 170x8. Love back day! Triceps-kick backs-25-30-35 all for 10reps. press downs 150-160-170 10, 8, 6 rope pull downs 50-40-40 these supersetted with the press downs. Biceps-preacher concetration curls-25-30-30 all for 10 pain filled reps Hammercurls-25-30-35 all for 10 reps(my new favorite) bb curls 70-80 10, and 8 db curls 30-30 for 10 reps....needless to say I was drained and my bis now feel like lead. Over all a great work out. HIGHLIGHTS: Last week got 2 days of cardio, and wife aggreed to cut out junk food in the house. LOWLIGHTS: diet and water comsumption could have been better. -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Ok last night was cardio. Spent 20 mins at a fast paced walk carrying my 20 lb son in a carrier strapped to my chest. A lot was up hill. then spent 1 hour walking around a festival. very tiring.

here is some diet news fron MuttLand. My wife has joined CURVES. I know it is not a "real" gym as we know it, but it works for her. Anyway she is very committed to losing weight and has decided to try the Atkins diet so I am going along for the ride. Will let you know how it goes.

Good luck to you and the Mrs., Mutt. I seem to respond well to extremely low carb diets like Atkins, and have had good luck with them. I just can't do it long-term.

Friday was chest and shoulders here is how it went:
Bench- wmup 135x 10-185x10-195x10-205x8-225x7 I felt really strong with this. incline-155x7 165x 2 that was it felt so weak here LOL it was funny. I was going to do flyes but the equipment was busy. Shoulder: bb press-95x10-115x10-125x7---delts fried here first shoulder workout in a month. Side lat raises 25x10-30x10 felt good rear raises 25x10-30x10 Shrugs 225x10-245x10-275x10-315x10-405x10 I fetl over all I had a great work out sore this morning and tired last night. One note next week I go back to a regular split...I think that my shoulder workout would have been off the charts if I had not done it after chest. Also I got 15 mins on the treadmill then got the sudden urge to get to a bathroom LOL HIGHLIGHTS: Overall this week diet was better than last week I got 2 days of cardio with 1-2 more planned. LOWLIGHTS: I felt that I could have done way better on diet and that is pissing me off I know what to do just lazy in doing it. Next week I get harder on my self. -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Mutt this is a great idea, glad to see you are doing so well as with many others here at FT. I sure do miss you all. I have been so busy just have'nt been able to log in. But still working out diet is the real problem. I have to make an efort to get more involved here. I was doing so well when I was.

Sunday was leg day-
Warm up- leg ext 40-x 15 2 sets Squats 135-x10 185x10 225x10 245x7 275x3 Hamstring 3 sets of curls 90x10 95x 10 95x10 Calf raises seated- 90x10 100x10 100x10 HIGHLIGHTS: Hit 275 I know only three times but I have never even thought to do that before. I will hit 6-8 at the weight soon. LOWLIGHTS: NONE REALLY DIET WENT WELL AND GOT 4 DAYS OF CARDIO THIS LAST WEEK 2 20MIN WALKS ONE 17 MIN TREADMILL WALK AND A 1.5 MILE WALK THIS MORNING. -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Next day is chest and arms day for Mutt. I believe it will be tuesday night. I am so pumped already for it. I have that swelling feeling in my bis just thinking about the pump i am going to get. My chest, you had better be ready to be destroyed! I am going to start with 135 for a warm up then hit 185x10, 205x10, 225x8, 250x6. Incline I hope to be able to complete 3 sets (note: start lighter and go heavier at smaller levles). Arms, (evil genius laugh) MMMuuuhahahahaha, I am so going to hurt you! Lets start with 4 sets of preacher concetration curls, move to 3 sets of hammer curls. Next stop: barbell curls 70, 80, 90, 100 all for 8-10 reps. Then and only then will you get to DB curls, 30, 35, 40 all for as many as I can get. Next is triceps, Skullcrushers, but wait! First will be kickbacks starting with 25, 30, 35 all for 10 reps. Sk's will start with 80, 90, 100 10, 8 , 6 reps. Then we move to the finisher.....tricep cable pressdown superseted with rope pull downs. Man I can feel it all ready the tris are trying to hide, HA bet they wish they could actually leave my body! Well you can not escape me!!!!!! Ok I went tonight to do chest and arms
Bench: 135 warm up 10 reps 185x10, 205x9. 227x7 and 255x4 Incline 135x10, 145x10, 155x6 Flyes (machine) 90x10, 100x10, 120x6 Over all felt really strong next week even better! Tonight is back and shoulders for me. i plan to really push the limits for both. I will start with 3 sets of chins as a warm up. Then bent rows 175-185-195 and going to try 205 all for 10 reps. Then to deadlifts, I will start with 245, 275, for 10 reps, then 315x8 and 335x6. then lat pull down...I will start with 150-160-170 (may go higher in weight depending on how I feel).
Shoulders- Shpress (BB) 125-135-140 all for 10 then the lat abd rear raises starting with 25, 30, 35 for both. Then last is shrugs, 225 (warm up), 275, 315, 365, 405, 450(for 6reps only 10 if i can get them). Anyway this is for tonight wed....I will Get IT DONE!!!!!! -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

She needs one to hold the kneecap in line cause it floats and that is also a cause of pain. Yes she had one but the kind she needs is like 200$ and right now not gonna happen. back is done and boy is it!
Chins (assisted) 3 sets of 10-really felt strong on thses even though they were assisted i still ulled up 210lbs of my own weight. Bent rows-175x10, 185x10, 195x10, 205x10-again very strong will drop the 175 set and work the others for a week or so to get the form down. Deadlifts- what can I say? I got 225 as a warmup. Got 275x10. 315x7 then skipped the 335 to try for a 405 1 rep. Did not get it I think the problem lay witht he fact I do the deadlifts on a platform so I can go all the way to the floor. When I picked the 405 up I had to shuffle my feet, That was a mistake next time I will set it on the floor. Next week i will do the 275, 315, 335, and 385. Pull downs- only one set of 150 as i was wiped out from the deadlifts. Shoulders BBSH press-125x10, 135x8, 145x5 lat raises 25x10, 30x10 rear raises 25x10, 30x10 Shrugs-225x10, 275x10, 315x10, 405x10 At thsi point I was sick to my stomach and dzzy so i stopped there and did not try the 450 set. I think two things need to change, one is to take longer in the work out. Two, maybe not do shoulders and back on the same day, but not sure how to work the split as I have 3 days a week I can lift. HIGHLIGHTS- I got 315 7 x for the deadlift and 205x10 for bent rows!! Diet also was good all day. Lowlights-I am very sore this morning and feel bad that I did not get the 405 DL and 450 ont he shrugs...oh well there is always next week! -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Tell your wife I am proud of her starting even with Curves. You gotta start somewhere. When curves gets too easy for her she can move on if she wants. I also agree that Atkins is too extreme but that is a good start too. When she goes back on carbs tell her to limit them and eat good quality carbs no whites You know the deal. Otherwise she will quickly put back all the weight on and then some. Many of us have been down that discouraging road.

Sunday was leg day! leg ext 40x12x2 sets for a warmup. Did the following for squats: 135x10, 175x10, 205x10, 225x10, 245x8 and got 275x2 Did 4sets of hamstring curls. Ok here is the thing, I did about an hour and 20 mins of yard work before my leg workout, cause if I had been fresh I would have done better on the squats. Also I slipped on some wet muddy leaves and sprained my left ankle before going to the gym. ALso since saturday morning I have had a pain in my left pec area. Does not feel like a pulled muscle, and sense sunday night it traveld to the middle of my chest, now when it comes on I burp and it goes away....not sure what that this all about. HIGHLIGHTS: All week pretty good dite, the scale at the gym says I am not down to 300. LOWLIGHTS: Pain int eh chest area and badly sore sprained ankle is going to bother me for this weeks workouts..... -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Chest and Arms was last night.
Chest:135(wm up) 195x10, 225x8, 245x3--felt strong till this set....way weaker(I need to eat something between 4pm and 830pm when i work out) Incline 135x10 (way easy), 155x10, 175x6 flys (machine) 110x10, 120x9 90x10 Arms: Biceps preacher concentration curls- 25x10, 30x10, 35x8 25x7 I had to drop the 25lb dumbbell here cause I got such a pump that my left bicep cramped up and my had let go) Hammer Curls: 25x10, 30x10, 35x10 alt DB curls 25x 10 30x10 (very slow reps, I guess a 3-4 sec neg on the way down.) Triceps: Kickbacks-25x10 (too light go up) 30x10 35x10 cable pressdowns and rope pull downs supersetted (P)130x10 (R) 50x10 (P)140x10 (R) 50x8 (P)150x8 (R)50x6 Highlights: Had a unbelievable pump in my arms after this work out. Will try to increase reps to 10 per set next week. Lowlights: felt I should have hit the flat bench better. next week I start a 8 week incline only bench routine. -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Ok last night I did back.
Chins 3 sets of 10 (last 2 with just 100 lbs of assitance) bent rows, 185, 205, 215 all for 10 (only 10lbs off my goal weight of 225!!!!) Deadlifts 245x10, 275x10, 315x7 i tried to get the 405 x1 but coudl not get it and here is why: I think the main reason is that I went to high to fast. Last night I think I had a good chance to get it, but well there is this group of 4 guys that lift together, 2 older stronger and 2 younger, well last night as I was resting before getting the 315( iwanted one more set of 335) one of the younger ones shows up. He asks how many more sets I have I tell him 2 depending on how the 315 goes. Now I know and Ihope most of you know tht when someone is in the middle of a set and they are in front of a mirrior or not you do not walk in front of them it distracts. Well there I am at 6 reps with 315 and thses two other guys come walking in front and stand less than 2 feet from me talking!!! throws me off i really struggle to get 7 and then have to stop. So now i am pissed off!!! The young kid then proceeds to strip one side of the bar off!!! I WAS NOT DONE!!!! So i just went over to another rack and tried the 405 which i did nto get. I hate whne others do that..i guess i should have said something but I was so tired and so pissed i might have really lit into them. So next week I will try 375 and then go from there. -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I sometimes wear headphones and play loud, bone-crushing heavy metal when I don't want anything (or anyone) to disturb me. Sounds crazy, but loud music actually helps me to focus. I guess it might have the opposite effect on some folks, though. Could be worth a try. Or we could hunt those guys down like dogs and then mess 'em up! Ummm, how big did you say they were?...

I am with you Tenor. I go to the gym with my hat pulled down, headphones on, and the VERY heavy music is pulsing through my brain. It helps with my focus as well, and people know not to come up to me and have a lovely Sunday chat, because I am there at that moment for one thing...TO TRAIN, and to train hard. Just keep your nose to the grindstone Mutt and you will prevail.

Sunday-Legs and Shoudlers

Squats 135x10, 185x10, 205x10, 225x10, 255x4 Met a freind that has a child my wife and I used to babysit(long story) and she was excited to see me so I talked with her and it threw off my squats. Ham curls 90x10, 100x10, 110x10 (plates loaded machine) Went home after that had to pick son up from babysitter. HIGHLIGHTS: Lost another inch from waist, and the squats I felt very stong but allowed myself to get distracted. LOWLIGHTS:See above... -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Monday-Chest/Arms
Incline press 135x10, 155x10, 165x9, 175x8, 185x6....decided to stop with flat bench for 4-8 weeks. I felt very strong and most likely will reach my goal of 225x8 soon. Decline 135x10, 175x10, 185x10 not sure of weight here that is why it is low...will go heavier next time. Plus not sure what this does think it hit lower chest but did not feel it at all there. Flys 90x10, 100x10 machine flies. Preacher Db curls 25x10, 30x10, 35x7, 25x7 boy these really fry my arms Hammer curls 30x10 35x10 40x10 BB curls 70, 80 ,90 all for 10 Kickbacks 25, 30, 35 all for 10 reps Skrushers 70 80 90 all for 10 reps press down/rope super set not sure of exact weight but the press downs about 120 and rope was 50 got 2 sets before arms gave out totaly. HIGHLIGHTS-On the road for a good increase in incline press. Diet was great the whole day thru and at night. LOWLIGHT-Missed flat bench a lot and I still did not get enough sleep. -------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Chins finally below 100lbs for assistance on them!!1 got 3 sets of 10 Bent rows 185x10, 205x9, 215x10 felt very good must work on ROM on these before going higher. Deadlifts 275x6-grip slipped, 315x8, 335x6, 225x8 felt good may go higer next week Pull downs (used differetn machn 170 felt like 140) did 3 set last one 210 for 6. HIGHLIGHTS-Felt very strong and in control of the weight. one more week till I go up in weight again for bent rows. LOWLIGHTS-None really could have eaten a better dinner. -------------- Squats are really a very good thing, but in my world of Deadlifts are so much the King!!!!!!!! |

Did delts and tris last night BBSHpress-125x10, 135x10, 145x8, 155x6 lat raises (side) 30x10, 35x8, 25x10 rear 30x10, 35x10, 25x10 Kickback 25x10, 30x10, 35x10 DB overhead presses 75x10 80x10 pressdowns 100x10 110x10 90x10 rope 40x10, 35x10 HIGHLIGHTS Only 30 more lbs till i reach my goal for Sh presses LOWLIGHTS my left ankle is badly sprained/broken I think going to go to the doc -------------- Squats are really a very good thing, but in my world, Deadlifts are King!!!!!!!! |
