How can I strengthen my left arm (im right handed), spefically with a view to punching, hopefully with as much power as my right? Using punch bags hurts my left wrist.

wrist curls help, and also you can try training with low ounce gloves or just bag gloves to force your body to tense up on impact. remember to stay loose until the moment of impact though. Also make sure you are hitting with the index and middle finger knuckles.
good luck.

Wrist curls and reverse curls are probably helpful. Do your wrist curls both ways, suppinated and pronated, supersetting is a good tactic.

hand grippers strengthen...wrist, fingers, hands....
there's a post in strength section on grip that discusses them....
I also noticed that suicide grip on bench press also significantly strengthened my wrists...it's a way of living dangerously...but with a spotter...it can be useful...

by suicide, you mean snatch grip menace???
also, there are a bunch of different exercises listed in the grip thread of the powerlifting forum, but maybe you are just over doing it and your tendons need time to recover??? just a thought

by suicide grip...I mean I don't wrap the thumb around the bar.....I keep it close to the other fingers underneath the bar with my fingers cupped....
snatch grip...I mean very wide...with thumbs past the outer markings....
