I was at the gym today and over heard some trainer telling his client that sweat is ultimate indicator of calories burned. Now I think that just sounds like a load of BS, if you ask me. I thought that the more you sweat the more in shape you were because the body has become more efficient at cooling itself and that sweating has absolutely nothing to do with calories burned. am I wrong on this one?

I think it's a load of crap! If we look at children, they don't sweat, but still burn calories. And yes, sweating is the biological way of cooling us down.

I agree that it is crap but I do not think that the more in shape you are, the more you will sweat. I have seen some very out of shape people sweat as if they had sprung a leak. I actually sweat less now that I have lost 40lbs

Yeah ya know it probably just has to with the individual. Its because of trainers like this that people still have the wrong idea about how to train properly.

Sweating is genetic and is also dependent on how much water you have in your system - you will notice that you sweat more when you have had a higher carb intake (and your muscles are full of water) than when you are low carb.
Some people sweat buckets all of the time, some don't sweat much at all...

But I do recall learning in school that the fitter you are the more eficient your body becomes at cooling it's core, which means more sweat glands opening up and more sweat.

That trainer is full of it and I wouldn't be suprised if somone strokes out on him when he is trying to make them sweat calories.

It most definitely is a load of crap. Everybody laughs at me because I NEVER sweat! And trust me, I work as hard as anyone. and would say well trained.

I was taught that when men get fitter they may sweat a little more than unfit men, but the biggest difference is in women - unfit women tend to lose heat by radiation, fitter women lose heat more by evaporation (sweating)
