I am PROUD of myself today. As a girl(and I know I am not the only one)if I have planned to work out, and walk in to see GUYS in the workout room, I promptly turn tail and leave. Let them see ME getting sweaty and huffing and puffing my big butt on the eliptical? No way!! BUT...this morning at 5:30, I went to the gym to have a date with Ellie(eliptical) and there were two...punky muscle boys in there doing their routine. So here's what I did.........I walked in, looked them straight in the eye and said "Isn't is awfully early for you boys to be up?" Then got on the trainer, set my time, and proceeded to workout without another look in their direction. They left after about 5 minutes, and logic tells me that they were probably done anyway, but I like to think I kinda kicked em outta my gym!

Oops..didn't even think that it could come across in type that I said it in a negative way. :( I said it jokingly, and they actually giggled(if guys giggle) in response. The point was that even though I AM completely insecure about working out in front of males, I empowered myself and worked out anyway.

The only part that was bad, was they didn't have the music turned on, so after they left I stopped to go turn it on(when no ones around I sing as I work)
And Hec, if you want me to push you around or something just ask, you don't have to keep calling me a bully. |

I gotcha, CristalBelle, the gym I joined is always full of men (the way it should be) and it has that "this is a guys gym" feel about it, not knocking you guys or anything, it is just one of those things women feel, that testosterone just bouncing off the mirrors gym, *wink*, anyway, it is really hard for me to start throwing my weight around the elipticals and then go sweat it out on the iron knowing I look the way I do, but then I just close my eyes and sing to the music, too, or something, I probably look all the more moronic, but it soothes me and I have loved every workout - men or not. -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. see I am lucky to be in the opposite situation, my gym is dominated by women and I must admit, my time does go faster if you gor a nice girl on the bike next to you, but thats probably a guy thing

That calls to mind a gym moment with my sons the other day. Before going with me they asked, "is there any hot girls there?" I shrugged and answered, "I dunno, but I guess if you mean the girls the guys all start drooling over, staring at, sneeking peeks at, I guess there must be because as soon as one of these "girls" walks in the gym you can see all the guys eyes dart their way!" It is very entertaining to watch them stumble all over themselves - go home to your wives, boys! :)-------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. ============ Quoting from CristalBelle: about working out in front of males, I empowered myself and worked out anyway. ============= You empowered yourself? Oh please! You feel good for yourself after making a rude comment to two guys who were minding their own business, trying to workout when you come along and try to boot them out? How can this feel good? If you don't like men when you "workout" then go to a ladies only gym and not impose your ideologies on other people who are minding their own business. |

I love how "workout" is in quotations. Like for someone who is overweight doing 30 minutes on an eliptical isn't an actual workout. I empowered myself by actually staying and working, not because I made a joke. They left because they were done, not because I "made" them leave.

I agree with Mutt, I think Spenco's comment is about as ugly as any I have ever seen here. It IS creeps like you that make it hard for women to go a gym. Perhaps you should find a men only website and not impose your ideologies on other people who are minding their own business.-------------- Anni ******* Quoting Michael: Your future is beckoning, pay attention to the call. |

That is one of the many reasons I enjoy FT so much, the members here are quick to support and defend someone that is deserving.
CristalBelle, from what I have seen of you here on FT, I don't believe that you would be intentionally cruel to anyone. That said, I think from what I got out of your post first and foremost is that you are learning to work through some of those insecurities some of us women face and you held your head up and worked out! Posts are sometimes difficult to read into, but I think some need to ask for clarification rather than slam someone. -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. Anni313, creeps like me eh? how do you figure? I am imposing my ideologies just as much as the original poster was ok? Mutt: you are right. Hec: If i come to philly anytime soon ill let you know. But I still have a question for cristalbelle, what makes you so uncomfortable around guys? If you think that all guys do is sit around and laugh at the person jiggling on the treadmill or something? I have noticed that people really dont care what you do when you are at the gym. BTW, you were right to stay and workout, no one should leave a gym just because they are anxious about other people. Once again I apoligize for the brashness of my original post. Please feel free to IM me about it if you want to. |

OOOh, carivan had to edit his own post... must have been pretty bad!
I think you are all a bunch of over-emotional girly men and you all just need to go and work out and not give a flying f*** what anyone else is doing or thinking in the gym! I tell my clients all of the time - everyone else is so busy worrying about how they look at the gym that they don't have time to notice or criticise you! -------------- An old thought for the New Year - \'If you fall down seven times, get up eight\' What matters is that you continue on. |

In response to spenco's question(which is valid) It is a small gym at an apartment complex. There is basically enough room to move from one piece of exquipment to the next, and 3 people in that space makes it almost chlostrophobic. Secondly, I had a "negative" experience with a male at this workout room when I was working out alone. If I was at a big gym, ie Bally's, 24 hour fitness, Nelsons Nautilous, someplace where there were lots of people and lots of room, it would not be a problem at all. I am self concious about my jiggle even when there is another girl there with me, but since I am a girl, you tend to feel that they feel the same way or at least understand.

============ Quoting from Reddy: Spenco - I have seen guys make fun of the overwieght (even ones that are only 10 lbs over)girls that work out. It is usually the younger ones that do it if the gym has staff they usually put a stop to it very quickly but if the gym doesn't have staff well think how kids are & I'm sure you will know (almost everyone been made fun of at one time) ============= I've NEVER seen anything like that at my gym, the people there are really friendly and the people who arent...well as asimmer said they dont give a flying f**k (and yes there are a few jigglers in my gym). Good point Reddy. I told my wife the other day I went to lunch and a cute girl at the counter was smiling at me. Later in the grocery store I passed another cutie and she smiled at me too. My wife said "I love you baby but the first time I saw you I laughed out loud".-------------- Dances with humans Charlie | |

I saw them again yesterday morning, only this time I was the one to leave. One of them was on the eliptical and had 20 minutes left, and the tredmill is broken. So I went home and did my pilates dvd. I'm not gonna let anything get in my way this time!! However, I really felt it this morning when I got on that eliptical...my legs love that thing!
