I've been going to the gym for over 3 months now. Going about 3 -4 times a week. I do some machines and freeweights and then I do cardio for 30 minutes after lifting. But anyway, I weighed myself and I used to weigh 125. Now I weigh 138. I know I had been out drinking a lot but recently I quit drinking about a couple weeks ago. I heard muscle weighs a lot. Should I stop weighing myself and just see how my clothes fit?

yeah it sounds like a good idea!! ive been going to the gym for close to 2 months.. before i started i was 81kg (180lbs) and now im 85kg (190), i was talking to my gym buddie yesterday about this thinking that i couldnt of put that much muscle on and he said "put it this way you havnt put on 4kg of fat". which is true, im not losing it as fast as i want to but it is definetly dissapering not gaining..
You know another good idea.. stop looking in the mirror! i didnt look in the mirror for 2 weeks, was quite impressed when i finally did.. before and after photos do the same thing..

scales are from satan and weight is only a number. ok maybe they're not from satan but the second part is true. if your clothes aren't fitting any differently then you shouldn't be concerned.
there's also the possibility that the scale you're weighing on isn't callibrated correctly. once i got on the scale pre-workout and weighed 174. after i weighed 162. now, i'm not complaining about losing 12 pounds in 90 minutes, but come on.
the real bottom line is that numbers don't mean anything, it's how you feel, how you look, and how your clothes fit that really tell the story:big_smile:

Also, make sure you weigh yourself the same time each day... best time is right after you roll outta bed...

Making the decision to weight train pretty much means throw away the scale. Howdie's got it right on, it's just a meaningless number.. from satan..
Even going by how your clothes fit is tough because your body shape changes with the muscle too.. I get very frustrated sometimes and really should just throw all my clothes away and buy new stuff.. I'm just not 25 anymore and should accept that LOL.
But the new shape is great, it's strong and it's sexy and you have to just go with that!

Yep! Throw away the scale. I ended up dropping a 45lb plate on my scale(10 reps.). Man, I gotta work on my temper!
