Well hello again. I posted just a few hours ago about my current fitness program. Well now I found out that on May 20th I will be going to Florida. Now my primary concern is losing some extra fat so I don't look so bad on the beach. :D I have read that when you build muscle, the muscle burns the fat. Is this true? And would continuing my current program be sufficient for losing fat or is there something else I should do. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Muscle doesn't burn the fat but I think you mean muscle burns more calories than fat. Thats true. Getting your diet right and maintaining the lifting will work in that department.

What would be a decent daily diet? Its odd because I weigh myself one day, and I'm 189, then the next day im 196. How does that work lol? I generally weigh myself at the same time each day also.
I just started eating much better recently (maybe a week ago). But it feels like I'm still eating quite a bit. Anyone have any more suggestions for me? |

Ah right. Well I'm 5'10" (and a half heh) and I weigh about 190 on average. I don't have much muscle. I guess I really don't want to lose weight, but lose fat. I just want to be ready for the beach. :D I'd like to fit better into my swim trunks also heh. I have a little over 7 weeks to do this. Would losing quite a bit of fat in 7 weeks be possible?

It possible to loose 15-20 by then, you just gotta spend more calories than what u consume. You should be loosing 2-3lbs a week not more, cause thats not healthy. Do a lot fo cardio and musle tonning.

I know this may be asking a lot, but is anyone able to come up with a quick program that would be good for me to follow? What are some cardio exercises that would be good for me?

for cardio - running would be great - I'm doing Tae-Bo a the moment - the adv one is great - Check out the nutrition plan here for your diet, I would try to go about 250 less calories than what it gives you to help loss wieght.
On lifting days make sure you lift & do the cardio at least 6 hours apart - that way you aren't burning the muscle - I prefer cardio in morning & lifting at night. since you have a time schedule I would do the spilt but remember to take one full day to rest each week. -------------- Reddy All people smile in the same language |

Muscle does weigh more than fat. How long have you been on this routine? As you'll read in many other posts by people far smarter than myself, a look of fat gain is normal at the start. What's happening is that the muscles are building under the fat, pushing the fat out. Not only will the scale tell you that you've gained, but the mirror will also. Not to fear... This is necessary, as the muscle will then burn the fat off at a more rapid rate.
Good luck. Let your trainer know that you are feeling discouraged about this so he knows. Maybe he is unclear of your exact goals. ============ Quoting from WORKINTHEY: :dumbbell: even after i work out in the am after work i come home and i use my gazelle, and my ab roller thing, and i have some little dumbbells they are 5 lbs, i use 10 at the gym.. i just feel like im gaining weight.. maybe it's muscles  ============= -------------- I will never grow up, just old. oh my, i see what you are saying, the other day i was trying on jeans.. and i looked at my legs, and they look so so fat.. i almost cried, i put my clothes back on and left the store. It was horrible.
I told my trainer what i want my goal is, so i know he knows. Last week standing there in my bra and shorts he mesured my fat in 7 differnet areas, he is going to mesure my friend and i once a month. do you think it will show i've lost fat then? ... or gained, due to the fat surfacing of course. Thanks you jonathan have a good point. |

HIIT might help, as it is supposed to burn a lot of calories. Do a search on this board about it. It's the source of tons of topics.

AnyoneCorrect me if I'm wrong please. But what I think I'm seeing is a lot of these posts are refering to the tendency to want a fat 'spot reduction' or a quick easy fix. Alot of these same questions are covered in the 'FT FAQ Complete Guide' and also in 'toning and shaping abs and legs' in the FT beginners posts.
Don't get me wrong, I came here looking for alot of the same answers. It all revolves around a clean, CONTROLLED, healthy diet and TOTAL body workouts, not just spot reducing. If you can't help but cram down food, your body is trying to tell you it's hungry-feed it! I wouldn't recommend alot of carbs on a fat loss program. What you need to aim for is more calories burned than ingested. Smaller servings 4-6 throughout the day keeps the metabolism burning, and you're less hungry. And, water, water, water. It should be with you wherever you go, and you should be drinking it almost constantly throughout the day. Just some thoughts, it all is working for me. Hope it helps! LoseForLife: Taking care of "fat" quickly does NOT mean losing it as fast as possible. If you lose to fast you may get flappy skin as a result. Take it at a steady pace. You should aim to lose 2-4 pounds a week. This is healthy, attainable and SAFE and the weight will be MUCH easier to keep off that way. If you crash and lose a bunch our bodies have a tendency to pack it all back on even faster.
chelz13rae: Eating healthy and exercising is ALWAYS in your best interest. Focus on the all body fitness instead of dwelling on specific zones. With good heath comes a fit bod! hollers2: sounds like you hit the nail on the head! hippoonice: your body NEEDs carb - just learn about the role of complex carbs. workinthey: you said "because of the fat surfacing of course" and I am at a loss as to what you mean. Fat doesn't surfact. Typically the fat we complain about is just beneath the skin surface but losing weight or gaining muscle won't cause fat to surface... When I started weight training the first time around I was 15-ish and weighed about 127 pounds and stood 5'7". I gained to 142 pounds and although my measurements were increased due to gained muscle - I have never looked better in my life (hence the reason I'm tryin to get back to that weight!!) Bigger isn't always a bad thing despite media hype. Tragically skinny is tragically unhealthy. Girls with shape - now THAT's where it's at!! Make sure you pace yourself and be patient. We area always our own worst critics and usually a lot of the critisism we dish out against ourselves is unwarrented. Just my thoughts.:dumbbell: |
