Personally i think its the pace of the music. If its a fast pace you tend to get into it more. I noticed that anything DMX keeps me going. Listen to what you enjoy but make sure you mix it up a bit.

I personally dont even hear music when I am working out. It's drowned out by my focus on the task at hand. But some metal does get you going. - Mike

I think if you don't go with any music at all its harder to focus on what you are doing because the music keeps you distracted. I personally listen to anything with a fast beat to it and it works great.

I personally find that good old rock and roll gets me going. I find myself listening to the tunes and don't realize how far I have ran or how hard I am pushing myself. Without the tunes I seem to just think about my goal time or miles. I like it better with tunes.

If I listen to good music I tend to start paying attention to it instead of concentrating on my workout. I go sans music.

I do a spinning class weekly for HIIT and it's amazing how sometimes when I feel like I'm pedaling through mud and can't increase my pace, the right jam is all it takes to break through and keep up the high intensity for another minute.
I find that rhythmic dance beats are perfect for Cardio and speed metal really gets me pumped for lifting.

Music is imperative. Disturbed helps me lift heavier, metallica gets me through cardio...If the music is slow and sucks, it is harder to maintain my intensity.

I always listen to music, especially during cardio. If I get to the gym and my MP3 player has quit and I don't have an extra battery, I just can't do it! Weights I can, but with the cardio I have to have it RIGHT IN MY EARS loud and fast!!

call me weird, but I watch TV... music is cool, but for some reason the TV seems to do it for me... especially for cardio... if I say to myself at the start of a half hour show that I'm doing this till it's over, I've made that committment... works for me!

Tim, that's not weird. If I'm doing my cardio at home, I watch TV also...only with the sound off and the music blaring!!
