I started to develop a soar throat yesterday. I woke up this morning and felt like I was swallowing sand. I sat in work all morning and tried everything I could to convince myself not to go to the gym. I decided to go. I got there with no intentions of doing anything close to challenging. My first set of squats changed all of that and I had one hell of a workout. I love leg days!! I still feel like crap though. =(-------------- Hec da Rec in full effect. |

I've found that if you feel like crap, you usually don't afterwards.... I've also found a bit of a cardio workout first thing in the morning after 'a night before' can help sweat it out... or maybe I just burned off the guilt!

I have always heard/read that as long as it is from the neck up, exercise is okay, if it goes into your chest, rest. Go a little lighter and do some light cardio.
Hope you feel better!! -------------- "To be able to go to the gym and train hard is a joy and a privelege, even though the hard work necessitates driving yourself through considerable discomfort. Savor this privelege and blessing, and revel in it." Stuart McRobert, Beyond Brawn |

The point was dont let a little sniffle keep you from the gym. Trying to give some people some motivation. Is that okay with you or should I refrain from posting such nonsense?-------------- Hec da Rec in full effect. |

Boy, a crabby group out there today! Get off hecdarec's back, he is just saying that having a little cold is no excuse to miss your workout.
hecdarec, it isn't nonsense, too many people skip the gym if they even think they might be getting a cold, or if it snows, or if the sky is blue, or if their dog ran away. Good for you for going and doing it! -------------- "To be able to go to the gym and train hard is a joy and a privelege, even though the hard work necessitates driving yourself through considerable discomfort. I agree Asimmer...Jesus people...what gives today? This place is an open forum for anything that the poster needs to say or share or get off their chests, even if it is a simple reflection of a personal acomplishment that they are proud of. Nobody has to respond to a post if they don't get it or see the point.

Amy, I never tried but here is a tale I posted in another board that totally nails my feelings for cats!!!!
How to Bathe A Cat 1. Thoroughly clean toilet. 2. Lift both lids and add shampoo. 3. Find and soothe cat as you carry him to bathroom. 4. In one swift move, place cat in toilet, close both lids and stand on top, so cat cannot escape. 5. The cat will self agitate and produce ample suds. (Ignore ruckus from inside toilet, cat is enjoying this.) 6. Flush toilet 3 or 4 times. This provides power rinse, which is quite effective. 7. Have someone open outside door, stand as far from toilet as possible and quickly lift both lids. 8. Clean cat will rocket out of the toilet and outdoors, where he will air dry. OH Charlie, I can always count on you for a good laugh.
Thank you! Have you seen the commercial hwere the dog eats a sandwich and drinks a can of pop off the counter top and then puts the cat up on the counter with the empty plate/can? One of my favorites. |

It has been my experience in the past that when a person is flamed for making a post in message board, they likely will not participate again.
I think the message hec has gotten across is that when you feel like crap, head to the gym or wherever you work out. That point has been reiterated by others on this thread. Fitness, exercise and eating healthy is a hard thing for many people to start because of the social issues around what people eat and how they look. If one person can post on here how they felt like garbage one day and worked out anyway and had the best workout in ages, let 'em post. It only encourages others who may feel they lack the motivation to do so. I say POST AWAY! Everyone needs the motivation every once in a while. I doesn't matter what level you are at... Thanks hec and everyone else who encourages us beginners to get up off our a$$ and get busy! -------------- Tim "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self." This type of posting has gone on long enough. This petty volleying of nonsense remarks and unconstructive criticism is going to stop NOW. As I have stated several times in numerous other threads, this board is meant for opinion discussions and not insulting. If this type of flaming continues and you are not capable of functioning civilly, your profile will be deleted.

Hey hec, I like how you said you tried to 'convince' yourself not to go to the gym. I do that all the time. If I feel crappy or tired, or even sniffely I will give myself every excuse not to go and then go anyway. Once there I will tell myself that I dont really need to do my whole workout or all of my reps, but as soon as I get going I usually end up plowing on through and feeling better about myself for perseveering (sp). Thanks for making this post. I think it made a very valid and encouraging point.-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Do not be discouraged; everyone who got where he is, started where he was.--anon ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

I'll second, triple, etc... what Red said. It happens to all of us. I'm the worst on the treadmill. After 5 minutes, I almost always feel like quitting. I "convince" myself to go for another 2 1/2, and then another, and another... It always seems that the days I really don't feel like training are my best days in the end. Get well soon Hec, get some sleep!

Hec, I hope you feel better soon; I did get the point of your post.
I didn't see as much cattiness on this board in a year and a half of coming here than I've seen in the past week. What's going on here? I got a lot of inspiration here. I feel like I left for a few months and came back to a different board. I still think this is the best fitness board on the 'net but I'd like to see everyone respecting each other again. I don't mean to add to the negativity with this post, just wanted to make my feelings known. |
