Just posting for some reassurance and positive feedback. :) Today I was talking to several ladies here at work about the fitness/nutrition program I started this week from freetrainers. Boy was that a MISTAKE. I had to excuse myself and come back to my office or I'd have been depressed and slipped up on the program.Until I started reading the site here and following the advice I have found, I had no idea how close-minded and unhealthy people in general are while thinking they know everything. Everyone I have talked to today has insisted that my new meal plan is not healthy or that I'm crazy for believing the information since it was on the internet. These ladies basically told me to just eat what I want because I only live once. And one even went so far as to imply that it was hopeless for me to lose weight so why try. No WONDER I make it a point to not have friends at work! Does anyone else find that it is mostly women who react this way when you tell them about your fitness plans? Granted, I have only told 4 males total, but they were all supportive. So far every woman I have told (including some family) has been very negative and judgemental and almost just mean. Pffft. Women like that give the one's like me a bad name. Think I'll go smother my doggie with love for a while. That always makes me feel better. :) ---------------------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com |

there are tons of experts, even in gyms. Like lawyers in prison. Don't listen to the negatives. Do what is right. It is amazing how people want you to fail! It is not only women by the way, men too!-------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |

Hi Jennifer,Women aren't always as supportive of each other as we should be and it sucks. I hope you're able to get good feedback from the guys at work and eventually the women will come around - once they see the results you're getting, maybe they'll want to know what to do! Check out this article for more info about women vs. women in the gym: http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html -> go to what's new -> Nov 2002 -> We Hate Her |

Jennifer, tdefio is absolutely right. You are doing this for you, so it doesn't matter what they think. You'll show them in a few months when you feel better and look incredible. Just use us for the support you need. We don't put each other down here. We give suggestions on what has worked for us or maybe what we know has worked for someone else. -------------- Lisa Just laugh about it.... |

I have to put my 2cents in!!lol I have had the same kind of thing happen. I have had a number fo very supportive coworkers, but one or two who are what the medical profession would call ideal weight have told me that I eat to much protein. In fact one even challenged me to a cholestral test....we did and I won(this was brought on cause he heard that I eat abot 2 doz eggs and egg whites a week). I had the same guy tell me that I do not lift cause I do not look like a fitness model. This was also handled in the gym as he went with me and a few friends on lucn break.....I whooped his skinny arse!!!!!!! Point is not all see past the anti-workout bs out there. They also are upset cause you are at least trying to make a difference. keep it up use their negativity to fule your resolve I did and lost 1.5 inches and moved my weights I used to another level I have never done before! It works trust me, now all the naysayers are coming to me to put training routines together...LOL what a switch!!!!-------------- IF YOU CAN STILL ITCH YOUR NOSE AFTER ARM DAY, GO DO ANOTHER SET!!! |

All I can is is thank god for this website. It is good to know that there ar tons of health oriented people out there. As my story goes, people think I am very weird for taking food or mrp's with me when I go places. People think that because I am 21, I should be out at the bars getting drunk, no thanks. It's to true that people HATE when you are taking control of something in your life. Most people are in a "comfort" zone, and when somebody comes along showing just how messed up they really are, especially in terms of health and fitness, they will only be negative. While that is not everyone, it is unfortunately most people. Just keep a positive attitude and know that what you are doing is the right thing. Let other peoples negativity fuel your fire and in the end, thank them for it. |
