I just recently added toning and definition exercises with weights to my regimen which will target all my muscle groups on different days of the week with rest days. The first set of exercise I begin on Monday were lunges. I think I may have done too many reps per sets. Thank goodness today is a rest day for weight training!

I did a 50 minute walk this morning after dropping my son off at school, and when I returned home and sat down in a chair, I could barely lift myself with my legs to stand up again!!

They don't hurt(no pain) but cause me to be stiff...some of you know what I mean? I am thinking about taking tomorrow off from walking to allow my leg muscles to "re-group". Do you think this is a good idea? Or should I continue walking, but at a slower pace than normal for me?

I can already start to see my thighs slimming down..woohoo..LOL!(that's the happy part)

Don't stop the walking it is good for you cardiovascular system.
Consume alot of protien and you will be ok. The pain should subside shortly. Its a sign of muscle breakdown and recovery. Keep up the hard work.

Remember to stretch afterwards and daily or you will feel even more stiff. DOMS or Delayed onset muscle soreness is normal...your muscles are going through a repair period.

The walking should actually help. When I get sore, it's always worse on the second day! Sounds weird, but enjoy that feeling - when you stop feeling sore you may, like me, always be wondering if you worked hard enough. LOL

You're enthusiasm is contagious, btw - keep up the good work!

Hi Everybody!!

I took the advice and this morning I walked a *very* slow paced 1 mile to warm up, stopped and stretched, then continued to walk another 2 miles at a slow pace, then ended with a final stretch.

My muscles feel sooo much better.
Thanks again........

Pamela, you are doing so good!! It is great to see your progress on here and you ask so many different questions and am always willing to learn more. Awesome job girl! I always find that walking relieves me too, not a brisk one or anything , just a nice steady paced walk.

You should think about posting some photos on here and then do so every few months to see your progress.

Hi Bettia,

Thanks so much for the support given to me. I am really excited about this site and the people that post here. There is so much to learn about "fine tuning" our bodies. I plan to hang around here as long as they let me.

I do need to have a few photos taken so I can see my progress, too! I am a little camera shy, but hey, maybe that will change as my body image changes.

I did get a little disappointed because I had to change my exercise program to "Home Exercise" because I don't have access to gym type equipment. But, that's okay because the Home Exercise program looks to be a great beginning workout just for me.

Red, I've been weight training for about a year now. I do all my weights at home and am very happy with the results I've gotten using nothing but dumbells. I just keep buying heavier ones! Remember, a chair or even the floor makes a passible bench so feel free to improvise if you have to - you may be able to do more than you think.

I agree - stretching is the key. I sit at work in days after my workouts and stretch every now and then to get the kinks out. You feel better and the mere act of stretching brings more blood into your muscles and helps with recovery. Although, I've got to admit, I get some strange looks while stretching in the days after my leg days!

Now I wish I had kept the "weight loss & toning definition" exercise program after reading posts from Bettia and JessicaR.

I changed only because there is an exercise that requires you to use a bar overhead and use your arms to lift your body off the floor. I didn't know how to improvise that one. Hmmm...maybe I will go back and change exercise programs again and ask you all for immprovisation.

Hmm, When I first started working out I was sore the next day (for the first week) But I don't notice it anymore....I mean I think it's there but it doesn't bother me anymore, Is this normal??and it's not cause I'm not working my muscles cause I've upped the weight I lift...I feel odd and out of place now =)

Ravenbeauty: My GF wants to know about some of the home workouts can you help her out? Jake_mc18@hotmail.com Thanks!

Soreness is not a sign of a good workout. If you are working out intensely in the gym and you know it, and feel each set you are doing, then you are fine. Some never get sore any more after working out, either immediately or DMOS. I happen to be one of these, and my wife gets sore all the time. And I take almost every set to failure. So, keep training hard, you will be fine. It is quite normal.

I work out like a nut and I feel the hardness when i weight train, but i really don't feel sore the next day either. I think the key and secret to no pain is stretching. Hold the streches for as long as you can. 30 to 50 seconds if possible. Im a stretch freak...just wanted to admit it :)
I even strech on my breaks at work and before I go to bed.. Including the stretching i do at the gym..Hmmm i hope this is not bad...
