I've been looking into his books lately and there's no way in hell that I'll be able to afford more than one or two for quite some time. Which ones would be recommended to start out with?

Science and Practice of Strength Training. Great book, constant reference.

However, without some formal education in physics and basic calculus and a good deal of study in biomechanics, a lot of his stuff will be confusing.

Pretty damn good book, and great reference. Make sure you get the 2nd edition: Dr Z brought on Dr Kraemer for it, and he is basically a god when it comes to the science of strength training (in fact, look into some of his other books, as well). Hell, even big Louie loves it! Don't pay more than $50 though - too many discounts on-line.

Hey on this train of thought is there any monthly mag that any one would recommend subscribing to?

--------------
As a quarter squatter was dominating the rack, I heard a conversation between an old powerlifter (easily in his 60\\'s) and what I would guess was his grandson (15-yrs old):

Kid: \\"So, why does he stop so short on his squats? That looks weird to me.\\"

Old PL\\'er: \\"He\\'s afraid if he squats deep, his vagina might touch the ground.\\"

Milo isn't really a mag, but has some amazing stuff.

Powerlifting USA is decent. Used to be a lot less advertisements and more actual lifting articles, but it's something.

I'd put the money towards other things unless your looking for reading material for trips, etc.

I think I paid $30 for a new second edition. Loaned it out to a friend in trade for supertraining (Siff). Also amazing.

I don't know how to do that quoting thing, but if I could I'd quote the first thing Wrestler said.

I know alot of this stuff won't be so straight forward as I'm sure Zatsiorsky gets heavy into the science and physics aspects of training. I plan on doing this kind of thing in university so I'd like to see what I can expect. I'm sure there're some things I could post here too to get some clairification.

I didn't say that it wouldn't be worth looking at. Only that you can expect to be confused by a lot of it.
