Steve,

Are you signed up for a training program yet? FT will set it up for you no charge!! I work out 5 days a week. Rest days are Wed. and Sunday. Try it and see if it fits your schedule and goals. Train!!

I also workout 5 days a week. I feel better everyday after I lift, so I try to do it as often as possible. Keep in mind that your body needs plenty of rest so don't over do it.

Coolness, how do you have your routine set up? Sounds like we have the same schedule; just wanted to compare workouts and exchange ideas. Feel free to email me at jeremy@chevelle.zzn.com.

Oops..... forgot to mention this, Steve. When I first started training again in February, I worked out 4 days a week and did a 2-day full body split. Here's a simple layout:

Mon: upper body (chest, back, shoulders, arms)
Tues: lower body (quads, hams, calves, glutes)
Wed: off
Thurs: upper body (chest, back, shoulders, arms)
Fri: lower body (quads, hams, calves, glutes)

I did that workout for the first 10-12 weeks and it worked great. I didn't do a lot of muscle-specific excercises; I concentrated primarily on the major muscle groups. Each workout only lasted 60-75 mins for me. I always kept the intensity very high. I worked for me and I'm just suggesting it for your info. The FT programs are also great for beginners. Good luck!

Again Steve, the answer to your question depends on your goals and your recovery period. I go for size and symetry. I split things into groups and time them specifically in order to get the most out of my workout. Here is a typical schedule:
Mon - AM Chest Only
Tues - AM Upper Back and Abs
PM Bis and Tris
Wed - PM Shoulders
Thur - AM Quads and Calves
PM Chest and abs
Fri - AM Hams and Lower Back
Sat - Bis and Tris
Sun - Off

I know this sounds like a lot, but with this split, the workouts are actually relatively short. The two-a-days could be combined into one longer workout. If you noticed, things are adequately spread apart so that bi training does not effect back training and tri training does not comflict with chest. Also, I only train chest twice a week and arms twice a week. Why? My back, shoulders, and legs take longer to recuperate. This is probably due the extra work they (back and shoulders) get with chest training. Also, my chest recuperates faster than the others. I use barbells on Mon and dumbbells on Thurs. This provides needed variety. Also, my arm training is limited to two exercises per muscle per workout. These guys get used everyday during the other workouts. I simply target train (peak, width, long head of tri, etc.) during these days. With all of the workouts, I only spend about 8-10 hours in the gym a week. The important thing is to get adequate recuperation outside the gym. This is probably more than you wanted, but sometimes I can't help myself. I live for this stuff!

Hi!

I've had the same problem myself and after a lot of thinking I decided to train 4 times a week. Mon-tue-thu-fri. It let's me rest and do whatever I want in the weekends. If you're not using any drugs (hormones etc.) I think you shouldn't train a muscle group more than once a week. Of course that's not the absolute truth and getting to know your own body will help you decide how much to train.

As I said, I work 4 times a week:

MON - chest + biceps
TUE - feet + abs
WED - rest
THU - Shoulders + triceps
FRI - Back + forearms (+ abs?)
SAT - rest (+ partying? ;-) )
SUN - rest (+ hangover? :-( )
