i have heard dont eat after 7 pm. does this really help with weight loss? i go to bed at 12am. and usually like to eat at 8 or 9pm. what is the scientific reasoning for the time of 7? or is it just a matter of the hours you dont eat before you sleep? like dont eat 3 hours before bed for example....thanks

Misinformation....it's good to eat 6-8 meals a day...including a shake or cottage cheese before bed...slow digesting protein to provide your body calories/protein while your body sleeps and prevent break down of body's muscle....
Eating (esp. simple) carbs or fats is probably not recommended just because your body is likely to store them as fat....

Yep, good post menace. There seems to be some misinformation out there that somehow the digestive system shuts down at a certain time. :)

I've heard the same as lilacdawn.
I was originally told the purpose is to burn calories you already have stored (fat) instead of letting your body turn whatever food you eat late into more fat.
Not a viable suggestion for most fitness buffs, but I think the root is simply to stop "bad snacking" (chips, crackers, cookies) before sleeping for those of us who have bad habits!
Just my 2-bits!
