I think I will share this post in the diet and fitness section. I am in my thirties, I weigh 150 and depending on where I shop I can wear a size 8 or size 10. My goal is to lose about 5 - 10 pounds. And after YEARS of dieting and excercising I haven't lost any weight!!! But I noticed one thing...everytime I even look at a set of weights no matter how light I will immediately gain 5 pounds. All the fitness gurus say use weights to boost metabolism and so you can burn calories. Well, I can't seem to. Should I give up the weights? By the way, I eat about 900-1300 calories daily, 6 glasses of water (sorry I can't keep going to the bathroom at work), I use the fitness program, and include jogging one mile (I'm easily winded) to the program and on the off days I do yoga 20 minutes and some light calesthenics (100 jumping jacks and 150 crunches).

Welcome to the site. I think you should up your caloric intake. (00 is definately not enough unles you weighed 100lbs. 1300 is a little short. I would boost your calories to about 1600, make sure the calories are coming from protein and good carbs in that order, and eat 4-6 times a day so your body will always be burning calories. Stick with it, do the weights and go easier on the cardio, you shouldn't get winded, try walking at around a 15 minute mile, then speed up a bit to about a 12 minute mile. !5 minute mile is just less then running. Hope this helps. Don't ecercise in your off days, no crunches, because you have to rest those muscles also. 5-10 lbs is not alot to lose, but will mostly be done by diet.

Carivan is right. You are starving your body. If you eat too little your metabolism will slow down and store all those calories. If you are adding weight with resistance training it is due to added muscle. That is good!! DO not get fixated on the scale numbers. Added muscle increases the metabolism and helps burn more fat. Women especially get too fixated on the scale...take measurements (waist, hip, chest, thighs) to judge how you are doing. Eat a well balanced food plan and take the "NO DIET" approach. Well balanced, lean (not no fat). This is a plan that can be followed a lifetime (think not only of the next few months but your quality of life at 50+) We require between9-12 glasses of water daily and for every 15 min of exercise we should add an additial 4oz water, for every cup of coffee/soda add a glass of water. It really helps your body! :) Good luck! This is a great site for lots of advice. PAT

As long as your clothes fit or get looser - ignore that g--d--- scale! Why are women so fixated on what hey weigh? I weigh 20 pounds more than I did when i was 22 years old but wear smaller size pants - muscle!!! You need to gradually increase your caloric intake - especialy focus on good quality protein. If you worked some sprints into your jogging routine you would rev up the calorie burn and probably increase your fitness level so that you don't get winded. Good Luck!

Wow, you definitely need to up your calories. At first you may stay the same or even gain a few pounds but given a little time, the fat will start to melt away. It is true and I am one that used to think lifting weights wasn't as important as dieting and cardio. It took me a long time to figure it out, but it is so true.

Thank you that sounds great...extra food is always wonderful! And I will rest more, as of now I excercise 5-6 days a week. Frankly, I'm pooped and frustrated. Thanks again.

Thank you everyone for sharing. I especially love seeing the before and after pictures! It's very encouraging, especially realizing I should eat a little more and excercise a little less. I've been very frustrated. I will share the results.
