You got that I hope! Someone I messed up the rotary cuff on my left arm (thank G 0- I'm right handed). Its progressively gotten worse - have to wait till my insurance kicks in by June 1st. Anyway, I havent been pushing any weights as I've been biking, but, I want to get back into it. QUESTION IS - are there arm exercises I should avoid (I know shoulder because I cant even do them without some pain) but am I making matters worse lifting or are there things that I can still do (i.e. bicep curls, tricep pushdowns - which don't seem to hurt when I do them) - but I do know chest exercises seem to bite so Im avoiding. I just don't know if Im going to make it worse lifting or what at this point until I get in to get a phy. opinion...just HATE to loose what I've at least achieved thus far.

Well I'm not a doctor, but as a golden rule, you should avoid all exercises which make you lift up the arm higher than your shoulder.....

I hope you'll be better soon!!!!

Hey I agree with philia. I have the same problem right now but not as bad (left arm as well). I still do upperbody excersises except shoulders. If I were you I stick with the movements that are painless. Listen to your body. And it doesn't hurt to listen to your doctor. It does suck though!!! Hope you feel better!!!!

Workingoutgirl,

Really sorry to hear you're hurt. Injuries suck big time, I know. Just one piece of advice I've learned from experience--better to be patient with it now and only lose a couple of weeks than to push through any pain and lose months later. As the others have said, a good general rule is if it hurts DON'T DO IT!. Hope your biking is going well and you are still on track for your race. Good luck with the shoulder.

I had 2 surgeries on each shoulder for rotator cuff. took over 1 year to get back to weights and cycling. very delicate situation. physical therapy helps because they have these table cycling devices for your arms to do the cycling. helps big time. weight bands are highly recommended as well. there are excellent exercises to do with these bands. go online to rotator cuff injury exercises and there will be the gamut of workouts for your shoulder!
hang in there, it will eventually get better! I couldn't even reach for the dial on my car radio w/out stabbing pain!!! take care
