I've noticed over the last few week that if I weigh myself both before and after a workout in the gym that I always seem to weigh more after working out than I did before it. My workout consists of 30mins cardio and weight training. The difference is generally between 4 and 6 lbs. Does anybody know why this is happening? And for an accurate measure, should I weigh myself before or afterwards?

Neither. If you must weigh, do it once a month. Scales are not only notoriously inaccurate but people worry about scales way too much. Your pants are the best way to gage your progress. Hide your scales until the end of the month, weigh once and then hide them for another 30 days. Welcome to FT.

Throw out the scale, it is NOT your friend!! :) Took me years, but I am getting it!

How about considering the amount of water you've drank during the workout? Compared to what you sweat out, what you drink should at least account for a little of the "weight gain". Like the others say; The scale isn't what defines your fitness! Just keep on pluggin' away, you're doing great as it is.

I know your right when you say throw away the scales, and I generally try and weigh in once every two weeks. However, even if I do restrict myself to once a month, I would still like to know it is relatively accurate!!

I believe your truest weight and body fat % is after you have woken up and taken that 1st morning pee!
You will have the Local trainers tell you that your BF is different from morning to night and that shows to me how much they don't know!
What 99.999999% of people do is take water weight and call it fat and this is why they think they have gotten fatter throughout the day when it's really retention!
1 thing learned here is it will take allot to add fat to my body so if I'm on top of myself then it has to be water retention!
