When your dumbells are enevenly loaded (10lbs on one end and 12.5 on the other) is there a rule of thumb for which way to hold them? I know with an exercise like lateral raises it's un-natural for your rotator cuffs to rotate forward, so I ass-u-me I should hold the bells with the weight toward the back? - or am I way off with my info?

why would you load one side heavier than the other that is the way to injury!!!

When I'm only adding 2.5 pounds to a set.

I don't think you'll get any benefit from increasing by 2.5 pounds on one side of a dumbbell. Try going to 5 pounds instead. You may not be able to complete the recommended number of reps, but in time you will. Just make sure you have good form and the increase in weights will come automatically.

Yeah, 2.5 always did seem a little miniscule. I'm probably just too concerned about target reps as you said. I'll increase by 5lbs at least.

Yes it is better to have the same weight on each side and not reach the rep than to unbalance it and cause an injury

Don't ever unbalance a barbell...... Keep the same weight on both sides (or go to the hospital!)

I agree that you shouldn't load a bar uneven. I think that it would be better to add the extra 2.5 on the other side and do one or two less reps.
