Are supplements ok for women to take? I've heard and read lots of differing opinions. I know protein is really important, and I think it's safe. What about creatine? I've heard both good and bad about it. My goal is to build and tone....Are there any other supplements I can try?

Thanks in advance!

Don't rely on supplements. I know that after seeing so many commercials and adds for products like Metabolife, Xenadrine, Hydroxycut, and Xtreme Trim have turned your attention to these dangerous thermogenics. It's best to avoid them, and stick with natural supplements. This includes protein (0.5 grams for every pound in body weight to be taken EVERY DAY) and vitamins. The only time you would ever need to rely on a supplement is if you're leaning down for a competition; otherwise, stick to the regular exercise, and a GOOD DIET. If you're trying to lose weight, eat every 2 hours( a small meal of corse). And do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach; you should eat at least an hour after your morning routine. Try these techniques and let me know how they work.

Along with what sandman said, you should also take calcium.

careful with the calcium though. Unlike vitamins A,E,C,and B, calcium isn't flushed out of your system so easily. Calcium build ups can come in forms of bone sperts. Believe me, you don't want that. The best thing is to take a daily vitamin that gives you your needed level. And as a quick tip, use beta-ceratin with your vitamin; it helps your skin stay healthy looking to accent those beautiful muscles. Ciao!

Question sandman, my doc told me that women during and after childrearing years, need calcium because women tend to lack in the calcium department, especially as they get older....And your opinion?

I agree that women do need more calcium than men. Thus, you have daily vitamins for women. These vitamins usually meet the requirement of the average woman, but using to much calcium will just be a waste of money. Your body can only process so much, which is usually what it needs; there's no use in over supplementing.

Most women's multi-vitamins have that extra calcium.

nfelt, just because something is natural doesn't mean it's safe. metabolife contains ma huang (aka ephedra)which has been proven to increase the likelyhood of stroke, heart attacks, and sudden death in even healthy people. my mother is also on seizure medication for the rest of her life because of it.

Well everything can be dangerous when abusing it. Simply as that. Keep your eyes open.

Philia, I'm not sure if your post was in direct response to mine or not, but I would just like to clarify that the study I was citing was not focused on people who abused that herb.

I'm no expert by far, but I think your body talks to you and if you are experiencing side effects taking something then stop. I.E. - I tried xenadrine and I really felt odd with it...like sorta jittery, not full of energy like I thought I would. I stopped taking it - feeling what I was experiencing was a sign. I am trying Hydroxycut now...but I can not agree with the amount they tell you to take. I mean....an 115 pound woman shouldnt take the same amount of pill that say...someone 250 would. Just my gutt feeling so I don't do what they suggest. JUST stop using stuff if it gives you an uneasy feeling.
