I just had to share - I just ate my first bowl of oatmeal without sugar! I know, sounds silly to post, but I ALWAYS have sugar with my cereals and this was not an easy task, believe you me!

As part of my new healthy living I want to cut back as much sugar intake as I can other than fruits. I know a lot of foods contain hidden sugars, too, so I am going to watch that also!

I am just so happy to make it through a bowl of oatmeal without sugar I had to share!! I am wondering, though, if I can't resist a little sweet, is there something that is tasty yet less calories than sugar? Not aspertane (sp) or those others, please, something more organic?? Honey looks to be high in carbs, too?

Thanks for listening!

Splenda does rock. I use it in my coffee in the mornings. Mmmmm....coffee.... And on oatmeal with a little cinnamon. And on baked sweet potatoes. And in iced tea. Anyway, you get the idea.

I use maple syrup...dunno if it is any better than sugar, but it sure tastes good.

Okay, since many of you use Splenda, let me ask you this, is it fairly safe? Ummmm, cinnamon sounds good on the oatmeal! I am trying to cut out some of the coffee and replace with tea...but I suuurrreee like my coffee, decaf only unfortunately as I get the flutters with too much caffiene easily - bummer for me.

I drink coffee every morning. The rest of the day all I drink is water and juice. Cinnamon in oatmeal is delicious, and Splenda is better for you than sugar and aspertame, so try picking some up if you can.

You might enjoy two tablespoons of unsweetened applesauce with cinnamon in your oatmeal. Also, a dab of vanilla extract is a very nice change.

I have always been under the impression that tea has more caffiene than coffee. Maybe I'm wrong.

I believe tea has less calories per cup than coffee. It's not as concentrated. Not positive though!

I also use Splenda. I've been thinking of adding yogurt to my oatmeal in the morning, but haven't done it yet..

The Splenda is fabulous! Thank you!

I drink caffiene free tea, also. The taste with the coffee isn't as nice without the caffiene unless I can find a good flavored coffee, I suppose that may have more calories? Hmmmmmm...yogurt to oatmeal? That sounds like it may be worth a try...I may have to do that as I read a post that says to eat more at breakfast (of the good things), but I can't stomach too much, that may work!!

I like the thought of applesauce - I have already added the cinnamon and loved that - to my oatmeal. Just a smidgen of vanilla sounds delicious!

You guys are JUST SO AWESOME! You are making my transition into healthier eating so much more pleasureable with your support and great ideas!!!:dumbbell::love::dumbbell:

Actually, tea and coffee on their own have no calories. It's just the stuff we put in them that adds up. The gf and I were at Starbucks this weekend. She ordered a frappachino. I had to suck it up and get a black coffee. Sure, it was good, but not as tasty as the frapp.

Oh, I feel for you, WAnglais1, I love the frapps and the mochas and the lattes! I drink everything black, so I guess I could look for some flavored coffee decaf again, at least I would have that treat. I would like to drink a cup a day anyway so maybe the caffiene wouldn't be so harsh on me.

have any of you ever heard of something called stevia? It's still technicly sugar but it's harvested from a different source (root I think) and It has half the carbs 3/4 of the calories and like 4 more vitamins It is hard to get but I use it.

You know, fitso, I have! I researched it about a year or less ago and I sent for samples and they never came. I hate to go buy something and not know if I can tolerate it. I should go back and do some checking, thank you for reminding me!

I mix my oatmeals with a scoop of vanilla protein powder + cinnamon and aniseed. Delicious! :)
(Before I ate some jam with it as well but it only made me more hungry -even with light jam, so now it's just oats! :surprised: )

Hmmmm I think you feel like the first time I drank a cup of tea WITHOUT sugar! Now I cannot even stand the smell WITH!............
