There is no set guidelines when it comes to sugar. The best answer is None! You get fructose in the fruit, lactose in the dairy and complex sugars in your carbohydrates. So if you can give the processed sugars up, do it!

good points.. stay away from artificial or processed sugars.. they may satisfy your tatse buds.. but that's it. Like ltroisi mentioned.. natural sugars such as those found in fruits and vegetables are excellent as a source.

And complex sugar (as in wheat, potatoes, pasta....) is only called slow or complex because it takes longer time for the body to break the enzymes into small sugar pieces.....
SO, you got lots of sugar out there everywhere and for a strict diet you have to count that as well.
Then of course we got the glycemic index and the speed how long each food breaks down in your body, but that's another long and complicated explication....

If I had your knowledge philia, about how the body and how food is use in the body, maybe I could get a good diet going. I still have trouble knowing what to eat and when. I guess I need my diet given to me meal by meal.

ssjslsdd, there is so much information here (other sites too) that you too can learn enough about the "diet subject" how food works with the body and how to build a good diet. You just need the desire to do it! If you scan posts and use the search button, Nutrition section too. You will find suggestions and individuals who have posted sample diets. There is no time like the present to get started on a good eating plan!

I'll tell you why I know all those things ssjslsdd, once I went to a dietician to get a good but strict competition diet. Well this guy gave me one and took my check with a big smile. I followed his diet and after 1 1/2 week I got ill, not just a little but VERY ill, I couldn't move, dizziness, sore joints etc etc I was supposed to see this dietician again but I never went. Instead I went to a book store specialized in nutrition and bought a lot of books. Okey today I can say that I got the knowledge of a dietician but without a diploma......... My body fat is 12% and I'm feeling fine. I know what I'm eating, I know all the different macro and micro nutrition and how they work together and inside my body. I KNOOOW and I feel a lot better.
One just has to be enough curious. Nutrition is a veeery complicated subject and what works for one person will never necessairly work for another.
If I can help with anything else, please feel free to ask.
