I know that we are supposed to watch our sugar, but why is sugar bad for us?

Well, let me see. I can think of two reasons:

1) Depending on when you eat it, it temporarily increases your body's insulin sensitivity...thereby disturbing the body's nitrogen balance.

2) Sugar can be readily stored as fat...especially when the body receives an excess supply.

Even granulated sugar has to be converted into natural sugars(glucose I believe) to refined sugar is worse for you than naturally occuring sugars.

Okee dokee, thanks. If it hasn't been asked before, about how much sugar would be okay to have in one day?

I add some sugar to my post work out shake. You need that insulin surge to replace what you've used up.

Yes as miken said, you can eat sugar but you just have to know WHEN to eat it (depending on your goals also). In the mornings and straight after your work out are the two times where you'll be sure of (well almost) NOT transforming the darn thing into fat.

When trying to loose weight, the worst thing you could do is to eat some fast sugar (like candies) without anything else...... Uuuuuuuup goes your insuline and this nice little thing will make everything for your body to make it store fat.
So now if you really want some sweets then simply eat it with some fibres and proteins and you'll be in better control of your insuline spike.......

Trust me, the actions of the thyroid is a weird thing.......

Oh by the way, the human body doesn't need any white sugar at all....... We just eat it because we are soooo attracted to the taste of it.
Think about that one.
