currently i am going heavy, doing 3-6 reps. i realise this is geared towards strength training but i also want to gain some size. so i asked around and from what i have been told it is very difficult gain size this way unless i increase my reps to 8-10. i am eating 1.5-2g of protein per pound of bodyweight, in addition to 2g of carbs per pound of bodyweight. so my question is can i make any significant gains in weight while training this way? i am 172 pounds at 5ft 11. i do all the compound exercises including bench press/squats/deadlifts and isolation work. would appreciate any advice, thanks.

heck yeah you can. The body will get stronger yes. But to get stronger your muscles need to grow. But for best results you need to follow a Bodybuilding routine which is completely different from strength training.

What is the basis for this claim? You can definitely get bigger and stronger on a strength training routine. Why do you have to follow a bodybuilding routine for best results?

when it comes to size bodybuilding is best. I consider strength training explosive high weight low rep. Bodybuilding is less weight with slow isolation tendencies. The compound movements are best for overall development, but with slow technique involved. Like its said don't train harder train smarter. For bodybuilding that is. Hope that helps

"But to get stronger your muscles need to grow." I relized that sounded weird. I mean you will get stronger asnd gorw as you get stronger. But to rely on size alone a bodybuilding routine would be better.

No dude, you're wrong. It depends more on your diet than your routine. To grow you have to eat. Lifting is lifting to an extent, both will get you more size and strength.

when it comes to size...Deadlift, Squat, Bench, and Row heavy...thats pretty much it. Oh yeah, EAT. Bodybuilding programs tend to have a muscle ?sculpting? (for lack of a better word) attribute with a goal of muscle symmetry and balance. There is nothing wrong with this?unless you don?t have a sufficient base to bulid on. edwardj...you are on the right track...just make sure you are eating enough. If you are not gaining weight...you are not eating enough. Also, to complement the information you gain from this site check out t-nation.com.

read my oringal post, but to gain size alone bb is your best bet. We were talking about reps and weight not so much food here. BUt yes food is about 90% of gaining size.
