:) I used to think I was big boned too :) SLim Fast can be yummy.....that's because there is a tonne of sugar in it. A well balanced low fat (not non fat) plan is better. Lots of fruits and vegetables lean meats and whole grain carbs and yes dairy (low fat).

I have to agree with lonegirl, a healthy balanced diet will get her much better results for the long haul. She has to make this a life long commitment. Good luck and keep a positive attitude.

Return the slimfast to the store. Nothing but sugar and carbs with a little protein in that concauction! Like the others said, good eating habits will do better. If she wants she can supplement with good meal replacemnts, that have the right amounts of protein carbs and fat (vitamins too)!

I agree with Carivan completely. Slimfast shakes are next to useless in a diet. They've got more sugar than a candy bar, a very small amount of low quality protein and some vitamins and minerals. She might as well eat a candy bar and a multivitamin. The Slim Fast diet is predicated on heavy calorie restriction. Basically, you take in a 200 calorie shake as your breakfast (not a good idea to start with), another for lunch and then eat a 'sensible' (probably 600 calorie) dinner. That leaves you with 1000 calories for the day, which is miserably low. Yeah, sure, she'll lose weight, but much of it will come from muscle and she'll be starving her body at the same time. Eventually, she'll hit a weight loss plateau and won't be able to lose anymore. If she ever goes back to a regular eating schedule, she'll probably end up gaining all the weight back and more. Sticking to the program might also be difficult. With 40g of sugar in each shake, the insulin surge will leave her hungrier than she really is after each one. Also, since the shakes are in liquid form, they won't will her up, so she'll be miserably hungry all the time. That makes the plan difficult to adhere to as well. So, the Slim Fast plan is really a poor weight loss program that's hard to stick to. So, you should probably recommend against it.

My mom had a few cans of the slim-fast lying around, and I took a look at the nutritional info...Man, that's a lot of sugar. I think it was like 35 grams or so. That sucks. I told her that those were no good for her to lose weight. She just said "But they taste good." Someone help her!

mattwilson - tell her, "Yes, they taste good, but so does soda and candy. What you are drinking is not much different. So you decide, do you think that this stuff is any good for you?" Tell her to get some protein powder - it tastes almost as good, it's cheaper and it's actually good for you.
