I'm sitting in the library waiting for my class to start when I happen to look over and see a guy with a big upper body, shoulders, arms, chest...and the skinniest legs I've seen since I last saw one of those anorexic models on TV. What is with guys and not working their legs at all???
Whenever I speak to my family members who want to work out, they always talk about doing curls and some pushups and then can't understand why they don't get big. Beyond telling them they need to do more than that, I always emphasize legs. I get that completely lost look and they change the subject. Can anyone explain this to me? Thank you for letting me rant a bit. -------------- Pain is but a threshold to greater strength. |

Because most guys are lazy in the gym and can always wear pants to cover their laziness. I did it for a year and most, if not all of the guys in my gym do that because they suck.-------------- Baseball is wrong: Man with four balls cannot walk. Jdelts@freetrainers.com |

LOL, I guess you're right about that. Maybe they are also afraid of the work that goes along with a real leg workout. :dumbbell:-------------- Pain is but a threshold to greater strength. |

Hey, i'll have you know I have very skinny legs.......
granted I have very skinny everything lol. But I am working out my legs just as importantly as any others. Mainly due to my father has skinny legs and a big upperbody(muscle and fat...no fat on legs though....not in the genes to get it there) Since my legs are my weakest muscle group in proportion to the others, i hate working them...but I knkow better then to just ignore them. |

I don't get it either because squats are my favorite exercise...then deadlifts. they're hard, no question, but i feel like such a champ when i do legs. esepcially those two workouts. if i start curling more, then cool..go me..but if i notice the plates to keep growing on the bar when i do squats and deadlifts, i get so pumped.:dumbbell::dumbbell:-------------- Get your weight up, kid |

Most people that hear that I want a 450+lb squat look at me like I am crazy. I always get that " you will get hurt" speech. (snort) Hell you can get hurt taking a poop! Point being is that it is hard to go in time after time and load up and do legs...but, the results are amazing....!-------------- LIFT HEAVY! BECOME STRONG, LIKE BULL! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

I think it may be due to lack of knowledge. I mean when I first started going to the gym legs were never on the schedule. It wasn't because I was too lazy to do them, I just didn't know. It wasn't until I started to actually learn about working out that I incorporated legs into my workouts. Granted some people are just stubborn, but to call them lazy I think is unfair.-------------- My gym dues are not paid with money. |

Mutt, LOL. Never heard of getting hurt taking a poop.
I understand that some like ultra have a genetic situation, but I'm talking about those who know full well what to do. They clearly train upper body fully, but when you see them on legs, they're only doing light leg presses or extensions and curls. The guy I saw though had really skinny legs without the look of someone who actually works them either. I know we've all seen these guys too. Hec, you're right about being ignorant of what to do to properly work legs, but I think there's also a basic resistance to working legs becuase they think it's too much work. -------------- Pain is but a threshold to greater strength. |

I am not so sure it is pure laziness. I to was one of those guys that worked 90% upper body and the other 10% was on an certain occasions. I just plained hated doing legs, but after lots of encouragement i Work them extra hard now... My wife was the main one making fun of my skinny legs.. My legs are still small, but are quite a bit bigger since I have been working them harder. In my opion LEGS are either a love or hate relationship, but everyone should pay more attention to them seeing they are transportion for getting from one place to another.. LOL Good luck to everyone out there with Skinny legs..:)

i work legs cause one........I have tree trunk legs.....I'd rather have solid tree trunk legs, than flabby big legs....next I have noticed the bigger my legs get, the bigger the rest of me get, I have read countless articles about squats and how you have the biggest spike of testesterone during these workouts, i knew they where the king of excercises but wow lol next and not least, I love slapping 4 plats on the sides and reping it 6 or 7 times below parallel and watching peoples faces see this !:dumbbell: besides if i'm built like a tank, i wanna ride on tank treads, not bicycle tires-------------- .......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! ......minds are not vessles to be filled, but fires to be enlightened ......Confucious once said ,DO NOT play leap frog with a unicorn |

hi guys, i am 53 years old and skinny build. As i am out of work i have decided to get meself fit. But with no money weights were out of the question, so i filled plastic milk cartons and with a broom handle got myself a set of weights! (The previous tenant to my flat left a chin up bar) The maximum is 74 pounds of sand an water. I have reached a stage where i can do the military press 11/12 times seated, which for me is incredible and I can do 16/17 chins with 10 lb weight. I have a touch of arthiritis in my knees and my doc has told me that i need to strenghten my thigh muscles to support my knees. My problem is that the cartons are so wide i can only get 55lb on the "bar" and i can squat this many reps. Will this help me get thickness in my skinny legs?

Ok, I got a question....Nothing like the feeling of heavy squats, and heavy deadlifts, but.............I have a knee that needs to be replaced, but no doctor in my state will touch it. I am not an elite athlete, or a millionare, and to young. The doc's and therapist say; absolutely NO exercises that stress the knee joint. So, what the hell kind of exercise can one do for legs that don't stress the knee joint? Leg raises; oh yippee!!!
Sincerely, Frustrated as Hell |
