Hay how you all doing? Im looking to to bring more mass to my upper legs to add more proportion to my over all look. On leg days i do leg presses, free weighted squats, and leg extentions. Know thats all good but is there anything else i can do to add some good size to my legs?

First off I'd eliminate Leg Presses....they are less useful overall....they have much less functional strength...
I'd focus on -Squat with close stance to hit quads-parallel or lower -Stiff Legged Deadlifts with close stance to hit hamstrings I think 3:2 is the recommended proportion in strength between quads to hams...so adjust weights accordingly... I'd focus on lifting 4-8 reps...of 2-4 working sets.... | |

I think though however from a body building stand point....IF done correctly the leg press can be good......I used to do them one leg at a a time....no lockout. -------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

Lockout is when you push the leg all the way out until your knees are straight, to keep tension on the leg muscles you should keep your knees bent right before they lockout.

There is nothing wrong with leg presses, and in conjunction with squats can be quite helpful. It is all in feet positioning. For instance keeping feet close together and low on the pad will emphasize the sweep. Putting them high and to the outside will emphasize glutes and hams. These can be a great addition to your leg workout.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

Yeah, I have to say the leg presses are doing wonders for me, I do them a few different ways and they seem to be working for me. The squats are always extremely useful as said above!
I am wondering, bb1fit, the trainer at the gym mentioned to my boys to do 12 reps add weight, do 10 add weight, do 8 add weight and repeat for three sets to help build muscle mass - does that sound ok? They are 19 and 14. Thank you. -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. Yep, good way to go. Getting their reps in while still challenging the muscle by pyramiding up.

no squat squats not sissy squats........bar on your back and go parallel. That build the most mass of the whole leg.
i'd do 2sets of leg extensions 2x15( warm up)or bike squats 4 sets lunges or extensions 4 sets heavy leg curls of some sort....5 sets heavy stiff dls.......4 sets moderate heavy... just for the stretch *one leged press 2 sets failure. * optional I take it your bodybuilding and not going for strength. that should be the only leg workotu you need......you can do dls on back day. OR every four week take squat out and do dls instead....... -------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |
