I really want to develop a more rounded backside (glutes). Can anyone recommend an intermediate rountin to start with. I'm trying to focus on doing squats with my legs close together. I started with 10 lb. dumbells on each shoulder I'm just not sure how many reps or sets to start with. I've tried lunges but my legs get big really fast and that's NOT my goal.

If lunges make your legs big then it's because of the fat...... Lunges is in fact a brilliant exercise to get nicely shaped lean looking legs and a great tush! (o;

You're doing great with the squats.

Why not follow the 8 weeks tone and fat loss routine in here?

I would love to follow the fat loss routine however my problem is that I'm EXTREMELY picky when it comes to food and I've never found a diet that works for me or that I could stick with.

Lunges are definetly the best. I love the results. You can use light weights. You don't have to use extremely heavy weights. I started with 5lbs in each hand and worked up to about 30's. Great results.

Airbornegurl, you need to vary to get results and really to be able to shape those legs, you'll need some resistance (other than your own body weight).
The number of repetitions and sets can change.
For fat loss, try jumping squats (with small dumbbells in your hands) or walking lunges.
Good luck!

A trainer at my gym suggested using the workout ball to develop glutes. What you do is stand with your back facing the wall with the ball placed at your lower back. Slowly lower yourself to a squating position curling your tailbone slightly around the ball as you lower to a position where your thighs are parallel to the floor. You will use the wall to keep the ball in place and it should be moving down as you lower. Then raise and repeat. The exercise can be done holding weights as you get more comfortable with the manoeuvre.

I hope I explained this ok - good luck!

Hold them in your hands palms facing in with your arms by your sides, while you do lunges, assuming you have dumbells.
You can also hold them the same way while doing ball squats if you have an exersise ball.
Hope this helps.

Do them in sets rather than 50/50....example ( 1 warm up, then place the weights in you hand and do three sets of 15).

I agree with everyone's suggestions here...
I wanted to shape and build my legs and glutes a little...and I never saw significant results like I did when I started goign heavier on the squats. Lunges (with weight) are another great exercise where you'll definately feel it in your butt. Also, if your gym has one of those butt blasters...you may be able to get some good reps in...if you feel comfortable doing them...!
