OK, my usual chest regiment has become quite dull to me... It makes me dread chest day, so, today I changed it around a bit.
The old one (for the past 6 weeks) has been:
4 sets incline barbell
4 sets flat dumbell
4 sets incline dumbell

Today, I changed it to:
4 sets incline barbell
3 sets flat barbell
4 sets flat flyes
4 sets decline barbell
and finally 2 sets flat dumbell.

Would this be over kill, or is it good for a change like this once in a while to shock the muscle?

Not at all...in fact,it is a good thing to change your routine. I do it every 8-10 weeks max. If you are trying to gain, you may want to eliminate your sets of flat flyes. Stick with the compound exercises, and go for heavy sets of 6. If you can do more than 6, too light, move up. Less than 4, too heavy, decrease somewhat. Also one thing I find interesting to me is even on my 8 to 10 week workout, I change the order around every other week or so to keep intensity and variety.

bb1fit gave some great but usually untaken advice...It is good to make some changes. I would suggest that you get a number of different exercises, but like bb says stay with the heavy compound ones and use those on a rotating schedule. Go a week or too then change the order, that helps like bb said to keep them intresting and confuses the body and that gives you growth.
