When doing the different exercises at their respected reps, do you continue to do the same exercise for all the reps (ie, crunches-12reps, crunches-10reps, crunches-8reps ect), then move on to the next exercise, or should you move down the list, beginning at the highest number of reps for the first exercise, then moving on to the highest number of reps for the second exercise, etc, then redo the list at the next lower number of reps and so on?

Do the same excercise for the required number of sets and reps, then move on to the next excercise. You asked a great question; its a pretty common question for many beginners, and I know you're not the first to ask on this site. When I checked out your profile, it sounds like you already have your goals set. Stick with it and give us updates on your progress. Good luck!

Thanks "j"
I do have my goals set. I really want to get back in shape, with definition. I figured that you did all the reps of the exercise, but wanted to make sure. What about drinking while you work out...Water?, Sports drink? nothing?
I'm trying to do this right and not get hurt. I am adapting some of the exercises to fit with my machine. I have a Weider multi-gym with a curl bar, arm blaster and five weights. I think I'm going to purchase a new weight set for some of the free weight exercises that I can't adapt.

Just be sure to stretch thoroughly before every workout. Never think stretching is not important; its probably one of the most impotant things to do when you workout.

As for drinking during a workout: stick with plain ol' water, no ice. Sports drinks are great if your carbs are depleted due to running 10 miles, but water is always best. Sorry, no beer during a workout.

as you become more advanced you can superset two exercises. That is do one exercise then immediately move to the next. Then go back and do the second set the same way. Something different to keep you on your toes.

The first thing you talked about is doing your program as a circuit (one set of one exercise, then another set of another ex etc And start all over)
This is a very good idea later on when you want to choc the body for a week or two.

Now stick to your program and finish all sets of every exercise. You'll get great results fast.

Good luck to you.

Good advice on the supersets! I just love doing these to get that "long-lasting" burn at the end of the workout! This also shocks your muscle into growth...

Also good when you don't have much time or if you are like me -who cannot sit still in between the sets...... (I stretch, dance or do supersets.....:o)
