When trying to loose weight, how much cardio a day is sufficient?
I have heard that 30 min is plenty and doing more cardio than that is not necessairy, however why do I read in magazines that many celebs say they spend up to an hour doing cardio per day?

60 minutes is the limit and anything after that is said to burn muscle instead of fat!
For me I say 45 minutes is great and if that gets tough do 40!

I heard that anything after about 45 min is said to burn muscle instead of fat, however I may be wrong.
Like a lot of people I don't really enjoy cardio, so I would like to know opinions on how much cardio is necessary. I know any cardio is better than no cardio, however can I get away with only doing 30 minutes?

Silly statement really, after 45 mnutes of what will muscle be burnt? How does the body know..ok, 45 minutes is up, time to switch from fat to muscle? That statement is based on someones figures that muscle glycogen will be used up, and thus amino acids will have to be utilized(body protein for fuel).
You really have little control over what substrate is utilized, except to some extent. That is, the less intense, the more fatty acids can be used. The more intense, fatty acids cannot be mobilized that quickly, so muscle glycogen has to be used. However, this does not mean that muscle is going to burnt. It is difficult to deplete glycogen stores.
In the end, slower steady pace burns more fat at the moment of doing it, but stops immediately upon completion. HIIT or any high intensity cardio will burn calories even after completion.

Time and Intensity are both variables - switch up the type and amount of cardio you do all th time. also check out classes and dvds to keep things fun and interesting. the important hing is moving more than you normally do.
