Has anyone ever tried doing this exercise and if so what did you think.

I guess you would have to do these with dumbbells? Or the leg press? That I have done. I can't see how you would do them with a barbell. Kind of like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest!

I've done one legged squats on the smith machine. Oh man, did that kill. I'd think it's almost impossible to do them with a barbell. As for that one legged man, I'd love to see him whoop ass.

The way to do them is to stand on one leg and squat down as far as possible. Trust me you do not need any weight when doing these at first. I guarantee that if you do these in place of squats and even leg presses that you will improve those lifts even without doing them. In order to progress to one legged squats first do one leg balance exercises. You can even apply this logic to push ups to improve benching.

Sounds like a variation of sissy squats. I do them at contest training, supersetting them with extensions. Great for definition. This superset, 15 each, kills.

============= The difference between the two is the balance and stabilization factor that the one legged squats offer. That is also where the neural aspect comes into play.

I like to do one leg squat to vary...... (and yes it really hurts!!)
Never take too heavy, be careful with your knees and get somebody to help you (if you might loose balance!!)

By the way, I do it with dumbbells in my hands and one leg/foot on a step behind my back.....
I haven't fallen yet!! (o;

Bulgarian split squats can be done with a barbell (one foot goes up on a bench) and are really interesting (and painful the first few times).

They're show with DB's but can be done with a barbell. Also, there's always single leg hack squats.
