I read a previous post that fly had posted a while ago about how to "learn to run". I tried it one day, jogging for 2-3 minutes, walking fast for 5 minutes, on and off for about 30 minutes total. I'm not a good jogger, so I am trying to start off slow. Well, ever since I did that (Thursday last week), my knees hurt so bad whenever I exert them at all, or stand up from sitting too long. I used to be a gymnist, and several sprains and injuries have made my knees very suseptible to injury. But, I'm wondering if this is just a normal part of "learning to run" or if I'm doing something wrong? I was going about 5.0 MPH jogging while 3.8 walking. No incline. Thanks!

ive had knee problems with my right knee every since i was in army...Jogging will act it up all the time,but Ive been wearing a brace with it for jogging and any kinda weight lifting that requires bending it and usin it in my workouts...It seems to help alot!!Just dont use it everytime cause your knees will rely on that support to much!!I was gettin a burning in the inside part of my leg but it seems to have gotten better.I wouldnt let military DRs. mess with it while i was in army!!!lol...be careful !!!!!!!!Know your limits!!

Thanks sunshine. I may just limit the amount that I jog until I get more used to it, and will try the knee braces. I did lunges this morning, and really pushed hard. My butt hurts so bad right now I don't notice the knees! I guess that will be my new stratedgy. Work a new body part so hard that the pain outshines the pain in the other part! ha ha.

I think jogging sucks - the force it generates on your knees sucks.
Try lenghtening your stride to a comfortable, smooth run instead during the intervals. That might help. You may want to try jogging on soft ground, trails, inside tracks at the gym if they have them, dirt. It is a lot better on your knees and less impact. Also the most important thing and this has been said many times before, your SHOES! Make sure you have the proper shoes with stability and comfort, if you are going for full out running you want lighter shoes as well.

Thanks guys. I guess that I should stop trying to jog in my stilettos then. That might help my knees! Just kidding. :) Thanks for the advice. Raven, I think I'll hit the high school track (made of that recycled rubber stuff) once the weather cools down (95 today). I didn't even think of that. Thanks!

How funny Amy!!1The lunges..I was just tellin my wife that I did lunges and my bootie has never been so sore!!1So I take it lunges work the gludious maximus!!!lol..man it really was focused there ,cause my buttcheeks were hurting!!lol..sorry to personal?lmao!!!

And yes running on tracks like a track anfd field course make it so much better..I coached track this year,and it was nice for the knees!!Good shoes help too!!!

Thanks guys. Gs, about the sore butt, I thought I was sore yesterday, today is horrible!!! Everytime I stand or sit I moan. I have had to clarify on more than one occassion that I worked a little too hard yesterday. I learned that when I say that I have "butt pain", it is taken in a very wrong direction!!! ha ha.

Imagine me Amy,Im a guy!!!lmao,Im tryin not to let people know my butt hurts!!!I could only imagine the responses!!lol...Im not that sore today,but i just did a workout for shoiulders and abs in my garage,and its hotter then you know what out there!!!This is the hottest day in the past 10 years here in ohio...I was raised in caliand I dont miss the heat!!
