OK. Here's the story. Since I started my strength/power routine again, I've really been taking it seriously. Friday is supposed to be my box squat day, but I wasn't home until after 10pm to do anything. I more than made up for it today though.

I usually do deadlifts after my box squats to really kill the legs and lower back. Today was no different. However, I decided to do them on a 6" box. This way the bar is right on my shoelaces and I have a little longer motion. I got 370 without much of a problem on the box. I figured that I'd just go for it all and I tried 420, but from the floor. I tried twice, but it didn't work for me. I dropped it down to 400 and nailed it. Keep in mind that this is after doing explosive below-parallel box squats and on my 6th set of deadlifts. I've never tried a 1RM on deadlift before. I may have to do that soon. 420 shouldn't be a problem if I'm fresh. This may not be a lot of weight for some of you, but I'm not exactly short and neither are my legs.

Sorry to ramble, but this is exciting stuff to me.

Congrats on the PR...Its wonderful to breakdown barriers as we can then visualize that we are actually changing ourselves! I like to do Low reps when I train deadlift, I find that since the dead lift is started from a static position I can train better on lower reps, 5 and below. Congrat's and keep going.

Eeeeeeeeexcellent, J, particularly for following boxes! And 420 is some great poundage, especially at your body weight. Keep it up, and keep us posted.

Ah, strength training...

Hey J, I'm not even sure what you're talking about, but I'm impressed. Good job!

I like to go heavy on my RDL's. I'll use 500-550 for sets of 3. I also like to speed RDL's with 225 for sets of 10. Glute-ham raise starting from parallel with lower back rounded off has helped alot too. I do a ton of hamstring work. I also do tons of reverse-hypers and back hypers. This has all helped my deadlift.

What are some auxiliary exercises you folks are doing for your deadlifts?
