Okay, so my brain is swelling from all the info I'm absorbing here, so forgive some of these questions. If you are on a weight loss and tone program, should you be taking protein shakes? I mean I'm sure they have other things in them. Could they inhibit fat loss?

Protein shakes only supplement what you lack in protein intake during the day. The good ones usually have a low sugar content (2g or less) so it is unlikely that you can gain much fat from shakes. Unfortunately, there is nothing in protein shakes to inhibit fat loss. It can, however, aid in the muscle recovery so that your body can obtain more muslce, so that you can burn more calories and lose fat.

Hope this helps...

Tons, I'm almost done figuring out my program. So can you take creatine and protein shakes at the same time?

Relatively speaking, I guess you can...but it depends. Which creatine product do you take? The plain old white powder (creatine monohydrate)? If so, you would normally take 5g in the morning and then 5g after working out (maintenance phase, not loading phase). I would normally take my creatine immediately after working out...then a few minutes later, drink my whey protein shake. You have about a 45 minute window after you workout to take your protein shake.

So far I am not taking anything. I plan to take the straight creatine powder. I just wasn't sure if it was pointless to take protein and creatine or if I would gain to much too fast.

Why not just start with protein powder and see how your body reacts? Eating enough proteins is far more important (for a beginner to build muscles) than taking creatine. You can always begin with that later on.

Just my thought....

I'm glad you had this discussion. That's the same thing I've been wondering.

Cain, it's the brand that makes a difference! I had one once that clumped up so bad when you mix it that I was literally "chewing" the darn thing...

I swear to the vanilla ones.... muuuuuuch better taste than chocolate (and goes a lot better with my oats!! :)

Lots of different brands and tastes out there, so you just have to try to find the one that works for you (be careful with the soy ones thou..... special taste...)

Also, in my opinion (stress on the word opinion), whey is by far higher in biological value than soy...not to mention it is more readily absorbed by the body.

However, I could understand that there are those who are lactose intolerant and cannot consume whey shakes.

I picked up the GNC brand so I have to "chew" my way throught this tub. I figure I'll have to try different brands. Thanks. I guess prolab is next on my list.

If you have a blender/mixer, use it. If not, I've been there and chewed that! Good luck...

Yeah I love it. It says right on the label "Mixes with a spoon!" Read the directions, and it says "Blend Well". Oh well.
